You need to take SAT II: Math 1 or 2 to apply for MIT.

I took math 2 and got a 780, but since all the schools I am applying to require 2 subject tests or fewer, I probably will not submit my math 2 score. However, if MIT requires it, I have no problem in submitting it. I do think it is a rather low score, since it is only in the 83 percentile. I considered retaking it, but, at this point, I think it’d be a waste.

I read somewhere that as long as you get above a 750 on the Math II SAT II, MIT won’t care about scores any higher, I don’t know if thats 100% true though and I don’t remember where I read it.

I think that you have just as good of a chance at HYPMS/ivies as everyone else, with luck you will get into 1-2. As for U Chicago, they love the essays, especially their creative ones so do some good work with that and you should be fine. I think that for the other three you should be high matchs and get into at least 1-2

anyone else?

Do you have any varsity sports in your EC? The folks from my school (yes, Asian) who did get into one of the HYPSM clearly had another talent they excelled at. One had 2 varsity sports, the other had a clear musical talent (national level)…and were either school president of 1/2 clubs with substantial community contribution (and lead charity efforts). And yes, along with your kind of gpa and sat scores (all were either valedectorian or salutarian), very competitive HS from CA. Anyway, good luck. I think you are pretty strong anyway…and will probably get into a top college. HYPSM is a reach for anyone.

do you think columbia and penn are crazy high reaches as well like dblazer?

HYPSM-Who knows how those schools choose. You definitely have the grades/scores to get a good look. Will probably come down to interviews/essays, whatever you can do to set yourself apart (hook).
WUSTL- Done deal, you’re in.
I think you’re a very strong candidate for the rest including Columbia & UPenn, and would bet $$ you’ll get into at least 80% of them. Good Luck!

@20more, that’s pretty disappointing since you had great stats. Can you elaborate on your EC’s + level of commitment/skill? How were your essays and recs?

HYPS/Penn/Columbia reaches, not because of you but because they’re just highly competitive schools. Can you elaborate on JET? I wouldn’t expect college admissions officers to automatically know what JET is, even if it is a well-known activity.

JETS(Junior Engineering and Technology Society)
I applied Princeton SCEA. What are my chances for that one specifically?

thanks for your post…

you have strong stats and appear to be like a competitive candidate, but HYPSM, Columbia and Penn especially are crap shoots… Im sure your pretty competitive for others… your ECs may be gud enuf… but there is always that pinch of luck that everyone needs…

Best of luck
