It’s been two years, so correct me if I am wrong, but won’t the schools get your SAT I scores anyway since College Board sends everything?

Got a Discus Award today. Don’t know if it means anything bit it was just nice to win one I guess.

@JCX They can’t if you dont select any colleges to report scores.

no way that your story is true.
if it is, which I’m pretty sure it’s not, you’ve got just about the best chance as anyone around, congratulations, but again, I think you’re lying.

lol ■■■■■ for sure.

This is absolutely ridiculous.
Support your family if your income is 0. You should realize that family is more important than getting into a prestigious college.

How do you even have Internet connection? What do you eat? How do you get to these activities?

Seriously doubting this…

If this is actually legit, it’s pretty sad that you aren’t supporting your fam as much as you could. You shouldn’t have all this time on your hands to do various extracurriculars.

Oh boy. Well for starters it want always like this. My family was middle class and everything was fine. We had saved up a LOT of money and had some successful investments. My dad still worked and he was pulling in very good commissions selling insurance. In 2008, the housing crisis hit hard. We couldn’t afford to pay off our mortgage or refinance our house for two reasons: our financial planner embezzled all of the investments, and my dads two best friends sued him for referring the planner to them.

Guess who lost the most?

Most of the money was gone. There was still some in the bank and 1 small investment was intact. But we couldn’t pay for the house so we moved two hours away to a cheaper home in 9th grade we could rent while my dad got on his feet.

I taught myself to play tennis and was able pay for my own racquets at the start of the HS season. I was a VERY fast learner, and used the money earned teaching tennis lessons to contribute to the rent. I made about $150 a week teaching only 5-6 hours on the weekends. Group clinics paid the most. Most of the money for expenses came from savings and cashing out the one investment. It tided us over living cheaply and in a small house for about 2 years while my dad also got welfare checks. He got s job early this year, and I’m proud to say we’re doing better.

He has a lot of pride, and he hated seeing me help. I only taught for 5 hours a week so he encouraged me to use the rest of my time at my ECs early 10th grade while he looked for a job. Took him awhile but he for one. If I worked my hardest and got into a selective college, I’m not expected to pay a cent. My family can improve financially while I’m getting a good education.

I never looked back, but I always contributed as much as my parents let me. They wanted me to have my own responsibilities and here I am now.

The point is that I had food, Internet, water, etc. due to the money we saved. There was just no taxable income. And I love my family as much as anyone loves there’s. I could have supported my family more and I still do. But I understood my parents intentions. They wanted me to work on my own future as well as that of the family’s.

Plus, I could not support my family by failing at school and going to a community college with no financial aid. That would cripple us. So I think this helps in it’s own way. Things are improving, and they won’t need my help soon. We’re a resilient bunch.

Ah I see. I’m sorry to hear about your situation. You should be proud of all the things that you’re doing. And I apologize if I came across as rude and overly critical.

I wish you and your family the best of luck in the future!

Farquaad

Oh god, Kid, You’re going places.

Thank you do much. I didn’t mean to give the impression of a kid who wouldn’t help his family, or a ■■■■■ (because I hate people who do that. One kid got a 9700 on SAT. Funny, but I won’t chance him).

Thanks again.

i would say that your unique combination of various extracurriculars and your economic background give you a very strong chance to get into these schools. Definitely think about how to convey your experiences and how to position yourself in your essays to show how your experiences have developed you and how you can bring a fresh perspective to any of these campuses. I have to say, your ability to engage in some of these activities despite hardships will certainly impress adcoms, and while your GPA may hurt you a little bit, your economic hardships will be taken into account. You have also taken a large number of challenging AP classes, which will help you a lot. You have excellent chances at all of these schools, considering your ecs and academic record. Of course, they are extremely difficult to get into, but I would say you have a decent shot. MIT may be a little tougher, but you appear to have a background in research, which will definitely help.

If this is a real story (and it seems to me like it is), you are so definitely in if you can focus your essays on your life without being too whiny. If you’re not careful, this could turn into one of those “I had everything then _____ happened and now I’m a better person because of it and you should accept me to ______” essay.

But reading your posts, you seem to be a great writer; you don’t seem like the person that would fall into that kind of trap. Best of luck!

With just a 33 ACT, I doubt you’ll get in. Harvard is just so competitive these days.

Ill work on it thanks. I was going to take it in September.

well, if you are telling the truth this is College Graduate level work. However, With the circumstance you have gone through such as, low income and still having the money to fly the world, sounds a little suspicious. Also, 1500 hours lab work, for a high school student and especially, with the work load you have sounds like… well…

the numbers are a little low, 3.8 gpa…Was it because you tried to support your family/other tough circumstances or is there no good explanation? ACT should be retaken for a better shot. Because academics are the number one criteria for ivies, I would be hesitant to say you’re def. in, but you have a great shot.

You have a great story to tell.
Because of just how selective HYPSM is, I would say you have a very good chance at being accepted to one of the above, though I don’t think anyone can say which. In other words, you will probably get into either Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Stanford, or MIT, but I have no way of knowing which one.

@ dblazer: try reading other posts before responding “the numbers are a little low, 3.8 gpa…Was it because you tried to support your family/other tough circumstances or is there no good explanation?”
