Chance me for HYPSM

@Myname2, i ask that b/c there is no clear answer. Teaching at tennis clinics on the weekend to provide for the family does not seem to be reasons for a relatively low gpa.

True, I guess I incorrectly assumed OP was doing other work to help his family

@dblazer.

Teaching tennis on the weekends is not the reason for a low GPA. Our school has a strange AP and honors policy where you can’t take any during sophomore year. So that drags it down. My grades for s2 arrived already. I have a 4.3ish now for a college GPA because of sophomore year.

The 4.3 number is irrelevant, colleges recalculate the gpa and unweight it (so it’s impossible to get over a 4.0). Recalculate the gpa by equating every A/A+ to a 4.0, A- to a 3.7, B+ to a 3.3, B to a 3 and so on.

I did the math and it’s a little over 3.75 for the college GPA based on the recalculating system. Only Stanford recalculated according to other people on the forum but idk.

The one thing that can pull you down is your stats, which seems absurd considering your intellectual EC’s… but I’d say that you are a unique enough candidate that they would give you very serious consideration at the least

Thanks guys. I’ll improve that senior year. At our school, comp lit and physics are the two hardest classes in the school so we’ll see

Yeah, well your in anywhere. I will say that your GPA and ACT are nothing special but everything else is like world-class spectacular that you could have gotten a 20 ACT and still gotten in. But I highly suspect your ■■■■■■■■, especially because you commented on the kid with the 2400 SAT that he had no chance at any ivies…

Holy crap man. This story is incredible. Your gpa might be a bit low, but colleges won’t give a shot about that. If you aren’t the type of person who ends up in Harvard or Yale, only gods go there.

Im nowhere as impressive as you, but chance me back?

If you’re not in, I don’t know who is…
Congrats on your achievements!

Wow, you’re really amazing! I didn’t read all of the other posts here, so I hope I’m not being repetitive, but you seem really determined and unique and have come through a lot. Best of luck to you! I truly think and hope that you will get into your dream school :)

Thank you guys!

my ■■■■■ sense is tingling

Umm…if this isn’t a ■■■■■, well by golly you have nothing to worry about my friend. Any school which rejects you is blind to your amazing determination.

But if you’re ■■■■■■■■…well, let’s just say it’s not to kind to all the kids who are actually in situations such as yourself.

Edit: I just saw the link two posts above. Nvm. I applaud you for your achievements, i’m sure you’ll get in anywhere you apply :)

I could almost guarantee a 100% admission to one/two schools of HYPSM.

I think you’ll make it. Your story is really inspiring, and you’ll certainly stand out for the things you’ve had to overcome. I know I’m personally sort of in awe of you, and haha, I thought I overcame a few things myself.

If you have the time, (which it sounds like you might not, but, uh…), I was wondering if you could chance me or give me advice. I did badly in high school, GPA-wise, but I was wondering if you could chance me on possible transfer admissions to Claremont McKenna. My story isn’t as interesting, but I hope it’ll set me apart a bit.

I’m probably the most skeptical of your chances mainly b/c of gpa and (probably) lower class rank. People who go to those schools (who are not legacy, recruits,…) manage to get top academics while having excellent accomplishments. You mainly only shine in the ECs, which are excellent, but the transcript is a priority which you fall short in. And, as you said earlier, it was not b/c of extenuating circumstances that your grades suffered. So it seems like whatever story you might have is irrelevant and didn’t inhibit you in many ways. Obviously, make sure you shine your ECs through your essays, but don’t get your hopes up too much. It’s HYP…a large portion of people who get in have some “hook” or another whether it be a private (feeder) school education, money, athletics, URM, geography and so on.

Thank you dblazer. I know what you mean. I took the hardest classes I could granted our school does not offer AP classes freshman and sophomore year. The admissions officers familiar with our school know this. Also, our school no longer ranks so that should work in my favor.

xcuse me for posting on your thread, but you lying on the discus scholarship thing is quite disturbing:
“I am an officer of the National Honor Society, vice president of the Mu Alpha Theta math club, and president and founder of the Plateau club, a club which promotes the progression of science by tutoring in science, collaborating on research projects, and bringing lecturers from the local university to inspire students.” “I have a 5 average across my AP tests.”
i go to his school, and none of those things are true. i don’t want to question his income in any manner, but he drives a blue lincoln, owns various versions of the ipad, etc.
lying on this thread is totally fine, but lying to a scholarship organization? come on now…

If you don’t mind me asking, how do you know?
