Since all of you CC members are insightful and perceptive, I appreciate every candid and critical assessments. :)
I know I have a rather eclectic and perhaps foolhardy choices and I;m sorry about that :D

p.s. Will chance back if you guys want me to :P

You’re definitely on track but it’s hard to tell without a GPA to go by. Could you estimate? :-)

Hard to tell because my school doesn’t calculate GPA’s.

But probably 4.00 Unweighted. Or very close to that.

Not sure how to estimate weighted though :'(

Your extracurriculars and test scores are good. However, your most significant handicap is being a Canadian (International). Unless you’re applying without aid, your chances of getting some of those schools are VERY slim (Stanford, Brown). If you’re applying without aid, probably reach at Stanford, Brown, low reach at John Hopkins and Penn, match everywhere else.

Best of luck.

Chance me back http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1206132-chance-us-junior-ucambridge-maths.html

Done. And thanks mate  Probably applying without aids but most schools have need-blind policy so I don’t think that matters significantly.

Bump  Lots of views but little replies :/

i cant help much cause i dont get the international system. but from your SAT and other scores, you seem really good

UPenn Dentistry - Do undergrads even have dentistry? I’m not familiar.
Brown PLME - reach
NYU dentistry - ditto for dentistry
USC BS/MD - reach
Northeastern HPME - reach
Case Western dentistry - same for dentistry
Boston BS/MD - I still don’t know anything about dentistry
Johns Hopkins U - match
Stanford - reach

Sorry for the vague responses. I don’t know very much about dentistry, and I don’t know much about combined premed programs either to be honest.

what’s your gpa like? it’s integral to the app

@zergftw - IB subjects are out of 7. So 7 is the highest mark you get. I dunno, currently, I would say I’m behind in the mark :frowning: But hopefully, with the little time I have, I can raise it up.

@chaosakita - sorry about the confusion. By dentistry I meant BS/DMD programs. And yeah, that was my concern when I was writing this post, because not a lot of people know theses specific programs, and are rather obscure  You guys could always chance me disregarding the program I’m applying to if you guys aren’t sure of the combined degrees programs. :D

@andrewjackson - My school doesn’t calculate GPA’s for some odd reason. I’m pretty certain it’s 4.00 Unweighted. Not sure about the weighted sad to say D:

UPenn Dentistry - I’m not sure about dentistry
Case Western dentistry - Not sure again
Boston BS/MD - Not sure
Johns Hopkins U - reach
Stanford - reach
Brown PLME - reach
NYU dentistry - match
USC BS/MD - match
Northeastern HPME - reach

I would say that you’re a good candidate. Superb in fact. Don’t forget about nonacademic interests (music/art/sports whatev) in your application.

I would say: Solid chance @ Case Western, NYU,

Fair shot at everything else

Unfortunately i think it’ll be harder for you to get into Brown/Northwestern (i’m guessing) seven/eight year programs because they already are SUPER selective, and you being an international student only makes it MORE selective. GL on everything.

SAT I:
Crit: 740
Writing: 800 (10)
Reading: 800

mfw

@javalava: Thanks  That’s one of my biggest concerns right now; bs/md and bs/dmd programs are very selective and biased against Internationals. What do you think I should do? If I want to be a doctor, obviously I can’t attend any American pre-med, since international going to US Medical schools is next to impossible… What do you think my chances are in Ivy or LAC’s like Amherest and Swarthmore are if I was to apply for economics (or heaven forbid, political science)? I’ve been getting told these programs like PLME and HPME are impossible to get in especially with my mundane ec’s so I’m considering a switch in major.

@Samonuh: mfw… according to urban dictionary, it could mean “my face when” or “my feet wiggle”… I’ll go with the latter.

Are you ■■■■■■■■? lol…lrn2chan

One problem is that we have no idea what any of those awards mean. Your academics put you in the running for any school, but your EC’s aren’t outstanding and don’t really show passion. Your essays are going to have to really show you are interested in medicine because your EC’s are more stereotypical asian and political. I’m just trying to be honest and I’m sure you will get into a great school, just maybe not a top bs/md/dmd.

Definitely a match for every school u have. good luck!

@zonis20 Yeah. A lot of my peers and counsellors have told me my EC’s are weak. I definitely see it as a huge weakness in my application and am regretting I didn’t get more involved in my Sophomore/Junior years. But do you think they are specifically looking for people with burning passion in the major they want to go to? Or do they also acknowledge eclectic EC’s? Also, should I explain/contextualize the awards, since they might be rather obscure (damn Canadian awards)?
Also, should I showcase my passion for medicine in both my common app essay in supplementaries? Or just in the Supp?
Sorry for all the questions. And I definitely appreciate your candid feedback man. A counsellor also told me my admission into bs/md is definitely going to be next to impossible so… I guess I aimed too high :stuck_out_tongue: Haha and thanks. Hopefully I’ll actually go to a good school :)

@andrewsun1994 Thanks mate! Good luck to you too brah :D

Don’t know a lot about dentistry or med-schools, but in general, I do know people at NYU, Northeastern, and BU, and I would say you’re a shoe-in at those. As for the rest, you’re ECs are great, so I think you should get into most of them

@macman3894 Thanks man. What do you think about Stanford and JHU though? Not as accelerated dentistry or medicine or anything like that. Just economics or life sciences.
