I’ll admit that I know almost nothing about your colleges. However, I’ll do my best.

I’d say that Colgate would probably be a reach, despite your double legacy status. Colgate is actually quite competitive, and they have higher average test scores than you have. Generally, you have an okay SAT, and an okay GPA. I’d say that you will probably get into most of your schools, however.

If you apply early to Lehigh, you’ll be matching it. I’d try for that. As for Colgate, I agree with the above posters. They don’t consider legacies to be that important in their admissions, so I’d be wary about calling it a match as of yet. Your EC’s are good (better than you think), and the fact that varsity tennis is an integral part of your application will make up for a slight deficiency in test scores. That said, your test scores are important, and you need to break 2000 to have a legitimate shot at some of the better schools on your list.

I’d say the following:

Lehigh: ED Match, RD Reach
U Richmond: Match
Colgate: ED Reach, RD Out of Reach
Lafayette: Match
American University: Safety
GW: ED Match, RD Reach
Tulane: Match
Northeastern: Reach
Skidmore: Match

If I knew what public school in New York you go to, I’d be able to change these slightly. If you do go to one of the top P.S.'s in the city, then you’re fine with your GPA. Your test scores, however, would need to improve if you want a legitimate shot at Colgate. As I said before, 2000 on the SAT is the magic number, or consider taking the ACT and breaking 31. IF YOU CAN DO THIS, I will be able to safely say that every school on your list will become a match.

Hi jisaacs, thanks for chancing me! I’ll give my honest opinion. Lehigh ED1 high match. Richmond: Match Colgate: Reach Lafayette: Match American: Match/Safety-ish GW: Reach Tulane: Reach (harder OOS due to some policies) Northeastern: Reach Skidmore: Match Honestly, the only thing holding you back is the SAT Score. Get it to around 2000, and the only real reaches left are maybe Tulane and Northeastern (big on numbers). I think the 2000 gets you into Colgate if you apply early, and a good shot at Lehigh ED. Keep up with your ECs, and make sure to try the ACT as well. Remember, your test scores aren’t the be all end all either. Write some quality essays and you may be pleasantly surprised. Good luck!

lol its fine. i basically agree with everything you said but i didnt think american was a safety. i thought it was more of a match. im probably wrong because you are the 2nd person to say that to me on this threads. Thanks for the help.

Would you be applying to Lehigh E.D. and everything else R.D.? If so I think the regular applicant pool has been pretty tough going at some of the smaller LAC’s in the Patriot league schools over the past few years (Lehigh, Lafayette, Bucknell, Colgate, Holy Cross etc.)

They also seem to be very concerned with stat’s (and raising them up) IMHO. If you are applying Lehigh E.D. try to get an on campus interview with a real admission officer in August. (Are on campus interviews required for E.D. applicants at Lehigh? They are at Lafayette)

Have you looked at the ACT/SAT forum with the threads on this site? They have suggestions for improving verbal scores that you may want to take a look at this summer. Also, read as much as you can before school starts. NY times, Sports illustrated, murder mysteries, what ever. It helps to learn words in context. Much easier and better than memorization. I know it’s a pain but circle words with a pencil to look up and review later.

I made my sixteen year old work on that all morning. He is currently under-employed and taking the PSAT in October. I am demanding eight more books by August 26th. Best of luck with Lehigh!
