Hi!
I am a rising senior and I am pretty sure I am applying ED to Northeastern, but not 100% sure, still have to convince the parents. However, can you all chance me for Northeastern, George Washington, American, and Boston University?
I have approximately a 3.7 UW GPA, however my school does not give out weighted or actual GPAs, so I only know my percentage is a 92.6 and 92.6/25 = 3.7.
I have a 31 on the ACT (English: 31 Math: 28 Reading: 33 Science: 31). (Would you recommend that I retake it in September or should I be content with the 31? I feel like the 31 is pretty solid for these schools…maybe?)
7 AP courses by graduations (AP Lang, AP Lit, AP US History, AP Cogo, AP Macro, AP Spanish, and AP Environmental Science)
Maybe possible interesting fact, I have voluntarily taken two online courses through my high school, and many people do not take this opportunity.
ECS:
300+ hours of working at a coffee shop.
National Honor Society member.
President and founder of Spanish Club at my school.
Been a member of a local improv troupe for seven years straight. My team has been in a few national improv marathons.
Been in 4 musicals throughout high school.
Been in 2 shakespeare productions.
Been in 1 drama production.
Member of A Capella Club.
Member of Literary Magazine.
Member of Chinese Club.
Volunteer at an after school arts program.
I think that is all I am supposed to post? Let me know what you think about my chances at those schools!
Thank you! I will chance you back if you leave a link!
You will get into all of those schools with your stats. Honestly, I wouldn’t ED Northeastern since you will not get much of an advantage. You will get in without it, so just apply EA.
@invader71 Thank you so much for the chancing! Just another piece of information: I plan to apply for a major in International Relations and probably a minor in political science!
@neuprospect98 Thanks for the information on your major. If you are interested in IR, I would not apply ED to Northeastern. George Washington University and American University are MUCH better options for your interest. You will have better IR internship opportunities in Washington D.C. and many of the faculty members that the two D.C. schools have or are concurrently working in the field.
your 92% is not converted by /25 to 3.7, as that is too low at 3.7. Look at each grade. Use the 90/80/70 scale (90-100=4, 80-90=3.0). Add them all together and average. That number is more in line with the GPA people use here on CC.
@NickFlynn Is the 15% even if I apply ED? Also, BU and American I would switch, I think. Because BU has almost 15% lower acceptance rate than American.
You are definitely a good candidate for all of these schools, but to call them all safeties is ridiculous. I was rejected by BU and waitlisted from NEU with a 34 ACT (accepted to GW w/ scholarship though).
I agree GW and American are better for IR and poly sci. Apply ED to the one that you love, but I think you will get into American either way.
BU and NEU will be more difficult than the other two, but you definitely have a shot. You also have a decent chance at ED GW.
@tlf123098 That is very interesting. I am honestly very surprised as to why you could have gotten rejected at those schools. However, test scores are not everything, obviously. What college did you apply to within the school, science or math or business or something like that? Can you pinpoint a weakness as to why it is possible you got waitlisted and rejected? Where did you choose to attend?
Boston University: 55%
George Washington: 70%
American: 80%
Northeastern is a little weird, because their published ACT range is very narrow. If I just use your ACT score, your chance looks about 10%; if I convert it to an equivalent SAT score, it looks more like around 20%…either way, a pretty big reach.
If you really want to get into Northeastern, I recommend taking either taking the ACT again or trying the SAT.
