Chance me I will chance back!

Hello all! I am a rising senior at a public high school in New Jersey looking for my chances at some high level universities. Here we go:

GPA: 3.98 UW (1 B+ In high school, all rest A's)
4.9 W (Top 2% of class of over 430)

ACT: 32 (34E 29M 28R 35S) Retaking at least once before apps

SAT: 2150 (660 CR 690 M 800 W) Might retake in November

I might just submit my ACT to most schools since it is stronger, and also because I can probably improve on it at least 1 or 2 more points.

No SAT 2s yet, I could use some advice on what to do. As of right now I am planning on taking Math 2, Lit, and USH in October.

My school doesn't let me take APs until junior year. I took 4 APs this year (Calc AB (4) , Psych (5), Lang (4), APUSH (4)) and am taking 4 (Calc BC, Stats, Chem, Physics) next year. All of my other classes were all honors.

I don't want to go in-depth on my ECs, but I will just say that they are most likely above average. Also lots of volunteering. My essay is excellent in my opinion, and my recommendations will probably be average.

I'm a white male, and my only hook is that I am first-generation even though my income bracket is >$150,000.

Colleges:
Boston College
Cornell University (CALS, Maybe ED)
Emory University
Johns Hopkins (Most likely ED)
Lehigh University
Northeastern University (EA)
TCNJ
George Washington U
Tufts University
UPenn
UVA
Vanderbilt University

Any questions please don't hesitate to ask! I will also elaborate if necessary.

What is your intended major?

Oh sorry haha, I am planning on doing either Biomedical Engineering or Biochemistry, both on a pre-med track. I’m planning on going to med school, but if I find out that it’s not right for me then I want to do something like BME or Biochem. Both will prepare me for med school admissions, but will also be viable if med school isn’t in my future.

Let’s start out with the “safety schools”:

 • George Washington U
 • Northeastern
 • TCNJ

Boston College, Lehigh, and Emory seem like good targets for you.

Honestly, I believe that Johns Hopkins will be the hardest to gain admission to, followed by Cornell, UVA, and Penn. Tufts and Vanderbilt are somewhere between targets and reaches.

I would be surprised if you don’t get into Northeastern EA. I think applying to Johns Hopkins ED would significantly raise your chances, and considering the prestige of their medical programs, it should be an honor to be accepted at JHU for any individual.

Hey I think your stats for the most part are good. I heard for Penn/Cornell, they really like students who have participated in a summer program of theirs. You have a really good shot at the other schools. Increased ACT will definitely help you out. Focus on recs and essays.
