THANK YOU IN ADVANCE
I SWEAR TO CHANCE BACK

Hmm if all those classes you took are just regular than it might affect your chances alot. You should state your reasons to the college explaining the situation. Also your Sat scores are pretty low for all those colleges you mentioned although your Sat II scores are stellar. I think though that if you major in mathematics you will have the best chance in getting to some of these colleges because you won several awards. I’m not saying this will get you in but majoring in mathematics is probably the best option for you. Also, just an advice but you should seriously consider cutting the number of colleges your applying to by half because most of those colleges, if not all, require supplemental essays…
Chance me back
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/999823-chance-usc-cornell-duke-emory-uchicago-northwestern-tufts-jhu-bc-nyu.html</a></p>

I explained above why I could not take AP or IB.
But I accelerated by taking courses for older students.
Can you specify which colleges are the most possible if I major in computer science or math?

Anyway I will chance you back
I hope to hear detailed chances…

you should get into the UC’s assuming you raise the SAT I scores to 2100+. Otherwise, your grades and your SAT II are pretty good. good luck with stanford, harvard, and MIT since they can be very random at times…

chance back please!
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1000699-please-chance-worried-student.html</a></p>

they’re all a bit of a reach because of your sat score  raise that and youshould be good to go :D

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/999338-chance-me-ucla-ucsd-nyu-really-good-ec.html</a></p>

I heard UC schools mostly recruit students from California. Will it be worth trying though?
New York University V.S. Cornell
Which school should I shoot for early decision?
in terms of possibility/good computer science department?

uc schools are recruiting less from cali now due to the economy  they need more people from other states to pay

nyu you have a better chance at… cornell because i like it more :)!

can’t give you a decision there

a lot, maybe all of those colleges would be a lot more within your reach if you could manage to pull up your SAT scores to 2100+
If you were to apply to all those schools with your current stats, I would expect quite a few rejections
Study hard and take those SAT’s again soon! Chance back please :)

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1000709-chance-vassar-ed-i-other-schools-please-will-return-favor.html</a></p>

you have a good chance at NYU ED, but your SAT’s are a bit low for the others…how did you manage 2 800’s on the SAT 2’s but not do as well on the SAT? Try and take the SAT one more time and bump up your score to 2100-2200, then you’ll be at least a contender for any school on your list

NYU would be the wise ED choice. Your scores are not competitive for ivies, your rigor is weak no matter what the reason and without a rank, we have no idea if your grades are competitive.

NYU is a reasonable reach. But only if you can afford the $55k/yr.

Korean ethnicity will help you, ACT scores will hurt you.
hard to understand GPA, but i’ll do my best.

University of California/Los Angeles - IN
University of Michigan/Ann Arbor - IN
New York University - IN
University of Chicago - IN
Rochester University - IN
Brown University - Probably no
University of Southern California - Reach, probably in
Johns Hopkins University - no
Cornell University (Early Decision) - maybe ED will help, ACT too low
Standford University - No
Yale University - No
University of Pennsylvania/Twin Cities - No
Dartmouth College - no
Columbia University - no
Harvard University - no
Princeton University - no
Massachusette Institute of Technology - no
California Institute of Technology - Reach, probably in
University of California At Berkeley - Reach, probably in

ACTs are pretty low for a lot of these school, GPA i think is great, ECs are wonderful, Korean dissent helps more than you think. good luck!

Chance ME Please:
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1000933-what-my-chances-depauw-university-washington-wisconsin-u.html</a></p>

First off, you have a good grade trend throughout your years which is a very good thing. Your SAT II scores are spectacular, a lot of extra-curriculars, very nice distinctions (you may want to elaborate on what they are exactly and how selective they are). I feel that I cannot say for certain which schools you can get into because of your SAT I scores though. Clearly English is your weakness. You may even want to write your essay explaining that. I’m looking at engineering schools as well, and I can tell you that some of the best engineering schools are
Ann Arbor
UC Berkley
Cornell
Columiba
MIT
CIT
As for JHU, it is famous for its medical program so unless you’re applying for biomed, there are other schools with better comp sci and math majors.

I’m going to be brutally honest, your English scores are terrible. You really need to bring those up. I would recommend getting private tutoring sessions to boost your English scores and take the SAT and/or ACT in the fall because even though you are clearly a math/science person, a bad English score will definitely drag you down. But if you can raise your English scores up to AT LEAST high 600s/low 30s, there is nothing stopping you from getting into a top school.

I just noticed that you lived in Korea until 9th grade. Definitely talk about your experience of moving to America to justify your low verbal scores.

Thank you everyone!!! (I will chance back soon!!)
I am sure my GPA (unweighted) is really strong if I do not count that my school has IB program. I bet I am in top 5 for non-IB standards in my school.
I am planning to re-take SAT, but I do not think I can bring it to 2100s (but 2000 is possible).
Any tip for my terrible reading speed? LOL

I tried to calculate my GPA (since my school does not tell me).
If I assume 90+ is A and 80+ is B, my GPA is around 3.8. If I do not count useless subjects like Art, Gym, Religions, GPA becomes 3.9

The only thing that is holding you back is your standardized tests scores… if you can get a 2000+ for SAT and a 31+ on ACT you should be in good hands! Other than that everything else looks great! Good Luck… chance me back on the below link!

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/999941-low-gpa-okay-act-what-chances.html</a></p>

why not consider carnegie mellon? its cs department is great.

Good chances at NYU ED. Ivys have got to be a reach cause of your Intl status and low SAT scores. Great awards though.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/991732-chance-me-dartmouth-ed.html</a></p>

golfnd is…clueless by any measure. Sorry to say, but he is way too positive as far as chances go. Caltech is not that easy to get into, and neither is U of Chicago. And being Korean is being Asian, which is being an over-represented minority, which will hurt you. But if I were you, I’d stick with some of the lower-tiered schools of your extremely competitive list. Nonetheless, for a relatively recent immigrant, you’ve done well.

Some differences between the SAT reading and ACT reading is that

You get so much more time for SAT reading

The questions are in order for the SAT

knowing this, the best strategy for a slower reader like you is to read a question, then find the answer in the passage instead of reading the entire passage. For the most part, the SAT reading section is pretty easy even if you just read a question then try to find the answer.
