Chance me for UC SD please? and post your stats if your currently in UCSD :)

Stats:

Asian
GPA UW: 3.59
GPA W: 4.05
SAT: Math 790, Writing 600, Reading 560
ACT: 27
EC's: Church, Youth Group, Piano, Competitive Table Tennis, Sports Medicine, Worship Team (for church), AWANA (church volunteer work for little kids), Mexico weeklong missions trip (2x)
Major Applied: Social Sciences Undeclared.

( I heard that the essays on the application don't mean much for UCSD. Is that true?)

So far: accepted into UC Irvine, and rejected by Cal poly.

All comments will be appreciated! :)

Oh, and
SAT II’s: Literature 590, Biology 650

AP’s: Biology 2 (so doesnt count) and US History 3.

Yeah you’re in congratulations. Essays don’t mean much, and neither does AP scores for that matter.

I also got in with the same major as you.

you just got recently accepted? or your a freshman in college?

I’m already in SD.

mapthesoul: From the research I’ve done on UCSD’s point system, I wouldn’t be so quick to say that the OP is in for sure.

lodywang: Do you have any leadership positions? Awards? How many community service hours do you have? Those are all essential for pushing you over the border on the point system.

@enemyunit : Church Worship Team leader ( which obviously isnt as good as like student body president.)

i have the academic letter award -as far as academic awards go.

i have many beyond many music (piano) awards, certificates, and many table tennis trophies from tournaments such as US NATIONALS and US OPEN ( i was nationally ranked in my freshman year, tho i dont think i put that down, because table tennis is not a big sport in america
i have about 190+ hours, NOT including Sports Medicine, because im not sure if thats community service

(sports medicine is going to games to treat injuries and hand out water to athletes. since its required to pass the class, i’m not sure if its actually community service, though techically its work that i’m not getting paid for.)

My best friend got denied to SD with a better GPA and SAT I scores but he did get into Berkeley (Spring Admit)…

I don’t know what his SAT II scores were

lol point system or not, the bottom line is, SD’s just not a hard school to get into.

Note that the UCSD point system uses the UC GPA, not the fully weighted GPA, so only count 8 extra honors/AP points. A 2 semester AP class will give you 2 points.

The information you’ve given isn’t really adequate to plug into the point system and come up with a concrete answer.

I think you have a really good chance!! Good luck!

Here are my stats, though I assume that it’s a little hard to get in now. I’m a second year at ucsd.

GPA Weighted: 4.2

Got into UCBerkeley, UCSD, UCI, UCR, UCSC, UCSB, USC, Wesleyan

COPIED FROM 2014 DECISIONS PAGE

Your chances seem ok, but it depends if you’re in-state or not. I was out of state and shocked to get in, though my grades are great I felt my SAT scores weren’t exceptional. Your GPA/SAT combo seems ok if it’s the case you’ve taken quite a few accelerated classes, though I’ve heard Cali has some issues with grade inflation otherwise, meaning a 3.3 might not be impressive at all. If you have some sort of personal story that may help.

Decision: Accepted
