CHANCE ME for UCSC,UCSB,and UCI
I go to a very competitive high school in California typically 50 kids go to UC’s every year
Your ACT score is higher than 75% percentile for UCSC,UCSB,and UCI See ACT Score Comparison for the University of California
[quote]
UCSC: Match
UCSB/UCI: High Match
Your ACT is above the average but UC GPA is slightly below. UCI especially likes UC GPA’s for 4.0+. Much will depend upon your intended major. Your essay could definitely give you the boost you need to make these all match schools.
Good Luck.
@Gumbymom i saw that but do you think the number is slightly inflated because of people that use UCI as a safety
And i thought major wasnt considered unless it was impacted
Each school has different criteria for admitting applicants. UCSD for example will admit to the university first then your major. UC Davis admits by major for Engineering, for Biological Sciences admits by college, Letters and Science admits by college and division etc…
UCI, I believe admits by college and major. UCSB admits to the University and then major especially for Engineering and so does UCSC.
STEM majors are usually impacted at most of the UC’s, that is why you need to be above the average stats for the best chances.
So if I wanted to do say economics at UCI would that be out of reach
Econ isnt STEM is it?
both matches?
chance back pls
Do you think possibly UCI’s average GPA is inflated by students with 4.6’s that use UCI as a safety, and that the true average of students who end up ATTENDING the school is around a 3.9
I think UCI Economics is a more realistic chance than UCSB.
You can check the acceptance rate for in-coming freshman for Economics with this link:
http://www.oir.uci.edu/files/adm/IA19-fall-fr-select-yield-by-major.pdf?R=437442
but do you think the average GPA of enrolled students is lower around a 3.9ish in relation to the gpa of the admits
According to the UC admissions site for UCI:
Average UC GPA: 4.03 Average ACT: 28 this is for enrolled students.
The only reason I chanced you at a High Match for UCI was due to your UC GPA which is below the average but not by much. Chancing is not a guarantee either way. I look at the average stats and matches are where the applicant is at or above the average. If you are below the average, it becomes a High Match/Low Reach or Reach.
The common dataset shows that 81% of enrolled Freshman had a unweighted GPA of 3.75 or higher. What is your unweighted GPA?
Essays and EC’s will all contribute to your chances for admission. These cannot be quantified, so I am just basing chances on stats.
it is a 3.5
If your unweighted is 3.5 then 14% of enrolled Freshman students were within your GPA range. Average unweighed was 3.94 according to the common dataset. There is no reason not to apply to UCI, just be realistic since the decision could go either way and that can be said for almost any school since there are no guarantees. Your ACT is competitive, so much will depend upon the competitiveness of this years applicant pool. UCSC is a solid match, so look for a few more match and safety schools for your list and you should several options come this spring.
The AVERAGE UNWEIGHTED IS A 3.94 that seems REALLY HIGH
I just checked UCLA and it says 3.88 average unweighted
Do you think that SDSU for finance and UC riverside business are good options for safeties
Yes, I think UCR and SDSU are excellent options as safeties. I also agree that the unweighted GPA listed in UCI’s common dataset seems high in comparison to UCLA.
Probablly a mistake and if it doesnt bother check out my other thread http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-search-selection/1822008-sdsu-vs-cal-poly-pomona-vs-uc-riverside.html#latest
