Chance me for WashU ED '23

White, male, urban northeast US

GPA: 4.88/5 (weighted); 4.0/4.0 (unweighted)
SAT: 1560 (780 Math, 780 English)
SAT II: Math 2: 800; US History: 700
APs: Chemistry: 5; APUSH: 5 (school doesn’t offer APs until Junior year)
Senior year courses: AP Lit, BC Calc, AP Psych, AP Physics, Spanish, Computer Science

ECs:

  • Mock Trial: Captain; 3 years on team; went to National Championship last year, team placed top 15 in country; won individual award at Nationals; spend a lot of time working on different roles, scheduling team events, etc; Mock is honestly my life I spend way too much time on it
  • Cross Country Skiing: Captain; 4 years on Varsity; individual top 20 in state, team top 5 in state
  • Cross Country (running) and Track & Field: Captain; 4 years on Varsity; team top 10 in state (times would be on border of being good enough to race for WashU, but definitely good enough for some less competitive D3 schools)
  • Computer Programming Club: 2 years
  • Job: Ski Instructor: teaching ski lessons (private and group) to kids (winter)
  • Job: Working for a local company that rents boats (summer + fall)

Recs:
Honestly I have no idea, probably average. I’m getting an additional one from someone who’s a bit closer to me, which should be a fair amount better.

Essay:
Again, I don’t feel like I’m writing anything Earth-shattering. Like I think it’s pretty good, but it probably looks similar to what a lot of others are writing.

I’ve shown a lot of interest to WashU (visited multiple times, interviewed, talked with coaches). I really love the school, and I don’t see myself not being happy if I go there.

Obviously stats put you in the range. Will you be a recruited athlete?

@Mwfan1921 thanks for the reply! I’m not good enough to be recruited, unless I improve a lot this season. I’d more be looking to make the cross country/track team as a walk-on.

If you are applying ED, you are showing the most “interest” possible, since you are guaranteeing them that you will attend. All I can tell is that many, many kids from our suburban NY high school with stats similar to yours have gotten in.

Good luck!

Pretty decent chances given your GPA/standardized test scores. And ED 1 increases your chances. You have already visited/interviewed so you’re showing the demonstrated interest.

The worst that can happen is that you are deferred to ED 2 or RD, although I think you will be accepted ED 1. Good luck!
