Im a junior in high-school studying piano performance at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts. Right now I have an unweighted gpa of 3.8. I want to apply to their engineering program. I have a 670 in math on the SAT, and I plan on taking it again.

Credentials:

-Chess club: Sophomore year I was a member. This year I am vice president. Senior year I will be president.

-Golf: Freshman year at Chapel Hill High-School before attending uncsa I played on the varsity team.

-Peer Leader: A selective residence life assistance program. Moved in to school a week early to be trained for the program. Weekly meetings, reports, etc.

-Piano: I have attended festivals in California, Switzerland, and North Carolina. Accepted to the University of North Carolina School of the Arts - Highschool. Practice 5-6 hours a day and involved in chamber music at school.

-Electronic Music/Composition: I have an avid portfolio for this.

Press on, and Go for it! Your SAT math score is excellent, and probably puts you in the top 25-30% of incoming freshman. Your EC’s are good to see, but more importantly, are you taking Calculus, Chemistry, and Physics at UNCSA? Your school is widely known for graduating very talented students; however, for engineering, your grades in the math and science courses (and the rigor of those classes) will carry alot of weight. If you take your school’s most rigorous courses in those areas (with that 3.8 GPA), I think your chances are great! (…this comes from knowing many friends whose children are in the COE now)

BTW, you did not mention what engineering you’re interested in, but do you have any original music-electronic engineering work in that portfolio? Any projects that explored the science of sound or music? If so, find ways to showcase that.
