•I lived in Guatemala for about 14 years. I moved to the U.S. for 10th grade. I realized that my current school’s curriculum is way harder/stronger than that of the school I attended back in Guatemala. Although not a straight A’s student, I tried my best to pull a decent GPA while adapting to my new life in the US.

•My essay reflects my experiences during my life in Guatemala (also ties with why I chose my Econ/Int’l Area studies as my major). My English teacher and GC said it was very nice. I hope the essay will be the “hook” of my application, since anything else besides it is not that stellar…

Quick chance me on a very brief description?

UC GPA: 3.96
Weighted GPA: 4.0
AP/Honors Classes: 7 throughout junior year, 12 Total
SAT I: 2130
SAT II: 730, 720
EC’s: My weakest point, decent at best
Essay’s: magnificent!
Enormous upward trend after crappy freshman year (think 2.8 –> 4.8)

I am junior, but do you guys think I can get in UCLA reagents for the class of 2013?

Although junior year is not over yet, I am 100% sure I will have the following gpa’s.
UC GPA: 4.2
UW GPA (10th-11th): 3.8
W GPA (10th - 11th): 4.6 (All of my academic classes were honors or APs except Spanish 2)
Rank: I don’t know yet, but will be within top 10%
Will be ELC qualified.
GPA shows upward trend. A couple of B’s in soph year, but straight A’s in junior year (5.0 weighted gpa)

Taking 7 AP exams this year. Hoping to get national AP scholar before senior year.
AP tests taken by graduation (tentative): 14
Taking 5 or 6 AP classes in senior year.
SAT II: 780, 760, 760, and two more exams on May. Might retake a 760 (Math II)
SAT reasoning: Haven’t taken it yet. But I am scoring 2200+ on practice tests. Hoping for 2300 range when I take it on June.

ECs/community service (I heard you can only list a few? So I will just keep it brief):

Hip hop/popping dance for years now. I teach kids in my spare time and get community service hours. I have also received couple awards/recognition.
Mu Alpha Theta - President
Korean Club - VP (organized community service projects for members to do)
Helping/tutoring mentally disabled kids at a local elementary school.
Peer tutor in school - 1 hr every week.
I work at hospital reception desk for community service hours.
I am a teacher’s assistant at a Saturday Korean school. I also teach kids Korean (also for community service hours).

I have a lot more, but those 7 I listed are the ones I commit most of my time to. I think I will have more than 1000 community service hours by graduation.

That’s just for getting into UCLA. I don’t know nearly as much about the standards for the Regent’s scholarship are, although I think you would be a Slight Reach for Regent’s based on comparison with passt recipients. Your chances for Berkeley are the same. Enjoy your “reagents” in chemistry class.
