Chance Me? Transfer: UCSB/UCD/UCSD

Major: Communication/Pre-Communications
Fall 2017 GPA: 3.71
Current GPA: 3.77
IGETC Completion: Incomplete Atm. Will be complete this spring.
Pre-Major Courses for UCSB - 2/4 will be completed, the last 2 are provided only on their campus
TAG - no
Ws - 4. I’ve made up 2 of them and the other 2 Ws are for my previous major.

I’m thinking my GPA is decent for chances to get into these colleges. The problem is that on the date of my application I only had 24 units. After the Fall Semester I moved up to 38 units. After the winter intercession I just completed, I’m now at 48 units. I’m worried that my credits are going to be my downfall. Is it likely for me to transfer to perhaps UCSB?

Generally, you need 60 semester units or junior status to transfer to a UC. This means that the quarter or semester you are applying for, you should have completed at least the 60 units and be starting your junior status when you enroll.

So I was definitely behind on credits on my application date. However, now I’m pretty much on track and will definitely not have trouble completing the rest of my credits by the end of this spring session considering its just GE courses. What are my chances of transferring?

As long as you’re taking at least 12 units for spring semester your unit count should not be a problem! Just gotta hit 60 by end of spring. And with your gpa everything looks great.

It shouldn’t be a problem. I’m actually in a similar situation and from with slighty few units and from talking to admission counselors/doing research on forums, I’ve been informed that it doesn’t matter as long as you complete 60 units by spring with your IGETC and all possible prereqs done, which is the case for you. If anything, 48 units before the springs semester is within the average I’d say. Damn your spring semester starts really late tho if you haven’t started yet!
You have a great shot at UCSB. Your GPA is actually just a bit above 75th percentile. Their average for last year for communication studies was 3.16-3.66
For UCSB tho, I heard that they’ll reject ppl for not having English 2 and Math done before the start of spring. You say you’re completing IGETC, but did you complete those 2 requirements already?
For UCSD I’m assuming your major is communication arts? Your right at 75th percentile GPA so that’s really good

This is only according the the source above: going by the data, you have around a 75% chance of being accepted under the communication studies major :). Considering you still have two W’s (if those classes are UC transferrable) I’m not sure what the UC’s will do.

@justaperson UCs don’t care about Ws unless you have a excessive amount of them, or a consistent pattern of them. Given that the OP really only has 2 Ws because he’s made the other 2 up, and they’re not major prereqs, they shouldn’t affect his admission in any way.
