CHANCE ME! (Wharton, Columbia, Harvard, Yale, Cornell, Northwestern!)

You took the ACT after a 2280 on the SAT? not necessary…

To everyone who has viewed this thread,

I would like to sincerely apologize for making the derogatory statement in my earlier post. In retrospect, I realize how inconsiderate and vulgar it is. Had some one made an similar statement about Asian Americans, I too would be very offended. What I did was wrong and I shall not make any excuses for it, it was a mistake that shall never be repeated.

I am truly sorry, please feel free to PM with any further concerns

Best regards,
Richie

Richie:

There are many of us on college confidential that applaud your efforts and sincere apology. You are still very young. I also have two son’s, one a h.s. senior and one a h.s. freshman. You are going to encounter many people in your life that are “different” than you, culturally, religiously and otherwise. If you haven’t already in h.s., you certainly will in college and in your future career.

Stereotypes are things that are said about a group of people when the real truth may not be known or understood. When you meet people of different backgrounds, you will realize we are all similar. People need to feel validated, not sneered at.

Many of us here thank you for recognizing your comments as inconsiderate…please be careful in the future because you don’t want any comment you say to really get you into trouble or fired or worse. Good luck getting into the college of your choice! :)

Not sure why you are getting so much grieve on the Financial Aid issue. Almost all universities encourage/require that you fill out FA forms to qualify for ANY scholarships – need based or merit based. You should fill out the FAFSA and the CSS.

richie - well done - I am applauding your response. I really appreciate you having the character to post an apology. People make mistakes and say thoughtless remarks - but few will come back and make a sincere apology and I just want to tell you how impressed I am that you have done so. Racial and ethnic stereotypes are used by ignorant people. You strike me as someone more intelligent than that.

So - I wish you the best in your college process.

Richie: Thank you for your apology. I feel like you will be paying this forward… and teaching understanding to others based on this experience here. This will certainly be a benefit as you meet a diverse group of people at college next year. Thanks again and good luck with your apps.

I hope a mistake so serious won’t be repeated. I am glad you have been illuminated. Good luck, fellow applicant.

Wharton - If you can sell how much you like business, you should have a good shot (and from your curriculum vitae, seems like you’re good at selling ideas/products [bestbuy]) If your essays don’t highlight that, i’d say mid/high reach, but if they do, low reach
Cornell/NW - match
Columbia - low reach
HYP - I don’t think you’ll get into all three, but if your essays are good, I think you’ll get into at least one  so… I’ll say mid reach

Richie, I also would like to thank you for your apology, and I would also like to thank you for your realization that you can use your words to make a positive difference in eliminating hatred, stereotyping, prejudice and discrimination. I am sure that you have learned from this experience, and I agree with LINYMOM that you can pay this forward…think about what a difference it would make if we all stepped up to promote intercultural understanding.
