Chance me :(

I just got my admission to my top school UT Austin but was wondering if I stand any chance of getting in Yale?

Top 4% of my high school
20/512 students
4.3 GPA waited
SAT 1270 (I know, it's awful lawl.)
ACT 18
National Honor Society
President of DECA
Creator/President of "Let's Swim for America" club
150+ hours of volunteer service

I'm also a black female. Thanks yall.

Sorry, but URM, while a big boost, isn’t strong enough to atone for a 1270 SAT or an 18 ACT.

I’m sorry, but I doubt that it is enough. The scores usually range from 30-34 on the act. There’s always grad school though :slight_smile: You might want to still consider retaking, if you are a senior do the Feb test date and send those scores to other schools.

Though prepare for the ignorant responses… unfortunately your stats and targets provide a lot of fodder for the more racist users of cc. Don’t lose hope and confidence in yourself no matter what they say.

^ “Though prepare for the ignorant responses… unfortunately your stats and targets provide a lot of fodder for the more racist users of cc. Don’t lose hope and confidence in yourself no matter what they say.”

Well I’m sorry Kay for belonging to a group that you consider racist. The more racist users of CC?? I have been around here a hell of a lot longer than you and have never encountered racism directed at any group. There is discussion of how URMhood helps but never in a racist manner.

It appears the only prejudiced one here is you.

@ OP, I am afraid that with those scores admission to Yale would be almost impossible but congrats on Austin!

Take the SAT in January and ACT in February. You have a chance if you bring up those scores by a lot.
Congrats on UT.

You sure about that?

Anyways, it’s really unlikely, OP. But UT Austin is a great school.

@Idiot

Wow…you obviously has some issues. I didn’t even address you personally, you made yourself a part of that group. So to be hones,t now I do think you in particular have some prejudice. And I haven’t been here longer than you because I have a life and a job, and would prefer to find and use knowledge to aid my child and possibly others, rather than put children down and complain about AA and “URMhood”.

The acceptance rate for white and minorities is about the same in many schools if you actually do the research.

i’m just going to say it, but your scores are terrible, like horrible, community college level not near Yale.

Kay, you are an idiot, with a very dim knowledge of CC.

@conner
stop taking everything personal.

Don’t try making assumptions about me, especially when your making URM threads for being Canadian. I was making a statement about some people on cc. But then again I probably don’t know everything about cc, because I actually have a life.

Very understanding of you to call someone’s score horrible and community college level–those scores are about the nat’l avg. She still has a chance at state schools and was able to get into one.

You don’t have a chance in hell of getting into Harvard, and if you do you will probably kill it in the interview. People often complain that Asians and Whites deserve many of the seats of blacks. If many (NOT ALL WILL OF COURSE, AS I AM NOT REFERRING TO ALL PEOPLE ON THE SITE ) of the cc users show just a hint of that entitlement and false sense of elitism in the interview that they display on the boards almost anytime a URM wants to be chanced, then they will most certainly dash their hopes of getting into their top schools.

“have never encountered racism directed at any group”
You probably haven’t because you have been “dishing it out”, so to speak. Just because you have not “encountered”–or noticed as anything out of the usual, rather-- it doesn’t mean that it does not exist. The way you wrote, you would think that I address you or all of the people on this site directly or even indirectly, and I’ve done neither. Get over yourself

just want to point out that by asking to be chanced you submit yourself to so called “racist remarks.” either way, its up to the OP not to take those seriously and use chancing how she will…you are being chanced by CC, not the admission dept.

personally, i havent seen anything racist about discussion on URM. As a URM, i understand why it would make people annoyed, but even people in congress debate affirmative action action requirements so bashing people who disagree with it is kind of wrong to me.

anyways, @ OP congrats on getting into your top. yale though doesnt seem likely

I mean, theres always a chance. Even with scores like yours. I don’t mean to be rude but you have to know that your scores aren’t Yale quality. Hell, I have a 3.7 UW and they aren’t even Yale quality.

Good luck.

Is this a joke?

@idiosyncra3y:
Dude, anyone on CC who is also a SCEA admit can figure out on Blue Marble in two seconds who you are based on the fact that you are from a country with only two admits and the other one hasn’t created a profile yet. You may want to re-think the tenor of your postings as they are no longer anonymous.

wait, hold on here, OP made a chance thread KNOWING that Yale was unlikely, lets be polite to her enough to congratulate her on the Autin acceptance(clearly demonstrating she’s not community college level…) and be honest with whatever we think her chance at Yale is.
Rather disrespectful to turn HER thread into one where everyone suddenly starts bashing each other about percieved racism or not, no?

My opinion to OP is that chances at Yale are low, but I think you knew that already, I’m wondering if the SAT score is out of 1600 instead of 2400, if the former, we know that there’s always a chance…if your essays are good enough, or you stand out in a different way that you haven’t mentioned here…miracles always happen…

Kay, Idiosyncra3y assumed you included him in your response bc you were referring to CC in general…there’s no need to start bringing up how you actually have a life or to become so offended so quickly…He/she may have stretched things when saying there’s NO racism on cc but we do tend to keep things on the respectful side, looking over his/her posts, there honestly is very little that can be construed as racist…

Evryone, calm down, and do OP the courtesy of either chancing her or not posting, there are enouch worthless URM/AA threads that serve no purpose…

“Kay, Idiosyncra3y assumed you included him in your response bc you were referring to CC in general”

I wasn’t even talking about cc in general, but just some–I don’t even know him and have never seen any of his posts. I wouldn’t of said anything if he and the following poster weren’t so rude.

@ Kay
I’ve noticed that Idiosyncra3y automatically presumed that he’s in that group, and showed offense to it. I do not think you (Kay) did anything wrong. You made a simple statement similar to stating that you hate “■■■■■■”.

@edpat
to tell you the truth, i just don’t think you have a good chance. unless you are able to pull it up to at least an 1800, i just don’t think you’ll have any chance for admittance. congratulations on your acceptance to a college, that makes you officially a non-college reject (: (which idk will be the same for me crosses fingers)

Congratulations on Texas, but no.

The 18 on the ACT indicates that it’s out of 2400. Congratulations on UT, though!
