She's worried...
GPA: 2.8
SAT I: 1480
basketball, symphony, community counsel, Ethnic Club
She really want to get in, so please chance her for me...

There is some weight given to recommendations provided by teachers. Even though the SAT looks good, that 2.8 GPA better have some very good teacher recommendations.

Maybe it was a typo, not 2.8 but 3.8??

If it is a 2.8, yeah that's a very good reason to worry.

I don't think UW requires teacher recommendations... (?) I didn't do one for my application and they didn't seem to have any issues with it.
Do you really think her 2.8 GPA will hurt her that much? Because I told her not to worry about it... since I thought that UW are very lenient toward instate applicants... :(

yeah I think 2.8 is pretty low for UW. I have a 3.85 instate and I'm really worried about getting in

2.8 is indeed pretty low. Is the 1480 out of 2400 or 1600? If it's for 2400, then I don't think she will get in.

Ashley: I don't think you should worry, I got a 3.8 and I got in... (I think my stats says that?)

myuw01: the 1480 is out of 2400 :( Do you think it hurts her chances a lot? She's not a very good test taker so she tends to mess up on standardized test... do you think there's anything she could do to help her get in? UW is her first choice and I really don't want her to be crushed about this...

Oh, clarification (if it helps) it's actually a bit over 2.8 (it's like a 2.88 or something,) so it's actually closer to 2.9... does that help?

Sorry, but the chances are pretty low. The GPA is way below average and the SAT is well below average. I would be very surprised if she got in.

With a 2.8 I would have to say some explanation would have to be in order from former teachers - was your friend absent due to illness or something?

Do the math - how many applicants ABOVE a 3.5 GPA your friend will have to skip over with a 2.8?

And WITHOUT any recommendations - Gov. Gregoire's might help? Or, maybe your friend ran into a burning building and saved a couple babies - something.

Guess getting into UW was not at the top of your friend's priority list all through HS. Kinda late in the game now - maybe your friend should go to a CC for a year or two to show UW that the 2.8 was a fluke.

^Do you have to be so sarcastic about it? I'm really worried for her! UW is the only college that she applied to...

Honestly, I think she should have been a little more realistic.
It's easy to find out what a college's average GPA and SAT are, and seeing that she's way below UWs, she should have been a little more sensible than to only apply to one large reach.

going by the 2005 freshman year, only 10% of applicants with GPAs below 3.00 were offered admission, and your friends SAT doesn't help her out much either

How long did she play basketball and participate in the symphony, counsel, and club? Was she on the varsity team for basketball? Team captain or anything? Also if her essay was exceptional, then maybe.

But her grades and test score aren't looked too good...

She still has time to apply somewhere else...Western and Central are still accepting applications. It wouldn't hurt to apply just in case.

I don't know if Eastern is still accepting applications, but it's relatively easy to get into. I think they only require a 2.5 GPA

Yea 0 chance
I have probably a 1% chance haha (2.9 and 1340/1600) and I did pretty much save some babies (EMT/ambulance driver)

Why are you telling your friend that she has a chance?
Look at a chart.
A 4.0 with a 1480/2400 is probably not good enough.

I'm telling my friend that she has a chance because a good friend of ours got in last year with barely a 2.8 and a 1380 (or 1400, can't remember exactly) SAT. And he wasn't "special" in any extraordinary way... :(

Basically no chance. Sorry..

My son was just accepted with a 3.0 and a 1510/1600 (2180 overall). 2.9 and 1340/1600 is probably better than 1 percent. Good luck!

I think the OP with a 1480/2400 and a 2.8 is in big trouble for admission to UW. I hope they have a plan B. (Sorry.) It's not to late to apply elsewhere.

hope so. thanks

WashDad's son under the old index would have been a 52. Doable for admission when the automatic number was 70 then they looked at others. The OP probably doesn't meet the minimum index number of 28. banis with a 40 on the index I don't know, I hope your from a top high school.
