I have a 3.57 UW GPA, 1790SAT (Math800, Reading470, writting520), another 1750SAT (Math770, Reading520, writting460), SAT2 (Math1 790, Math2 800, physics 750), great letters of recommendation, play piano for 10 years, dont have any awards, lack of community service. I am a MD resident
The thing is I am from a different country, Taiwan. I start in America as a 11th grader. I got almost all bs in Taiwan but I got almost As in America (that is why my GPA is low, I got 3.9375 UW gpa in 11th grade)
Is there any chance with low GPA and SAT score that I have a little chance to get into umcp?
Is there any other school that you recommend?

Well, this is a tricky case.
Your GPA is on the low side for UMD, but that didn’t stop me from getting in with a 3.38 UW GPA. In-state status also helps you admission-wise. Also, UMD does not consider the writing portion of the SAT so your SAT score is 1320 when superscored(best M+best CR), again, better than mine, and while a little below UMD average, not crippling by any means. Yet another thing going in your favor is the fact that you’re from Taiwan: You help the diversity of the student body, and you’re clearly a great math student, from what I can tell of your scores.

What’s working against you is your lack of extracurriculars; you’ve played piano for ten years, but that’s all you seem to have. Some high-caliber schools reject excellent students just because they don’t do anything but ace tests and get good grades. Maybe you didn’t have much in the way of opportunities in Taiwan, so if this is the case, hopefully you reflected that in your essay(s) or resume.

You have a good shot at UMD, but there is a chance that you still may not get in. If you’re looking for in-state tuition and backup schools in case UMD rejects you, try UMBC, Towson, or Salisbury University. UMBC especially is good with math, engineering, physics, and whatnot, and math seems to be your strength, so make sure you look there as well.

Thank you for your help!!!
I really want to get into this school!
And yes, I wrote a lot about my life in Taiwan in my essay

You have a pretty good shot. Any GPA over 3.5 is good in the eyes of most schools.
