Chancellor’s Scholarship Weekend

Is anyone else nervous for the Chancellor’s Scholarship completion? TCU is my number one school and I can’t afford it if I don’t get the scholarship so I feel really anxious about it. But we’ll see how it goes next week!
Also, does anyone know if they only base the scholarship off of how you do in the interviews or do they consider the rest of your application as well?

@pizza468 I’m a current CS and I’ll be helping out at the weekend. It’s completely normal to feel nervous, but just try to channel that energy into doing well  As far as the scholarship, I don’t know the exact specifics, but a significant portion of the decision is based on your presentation and interview, which can be based on your application writings. Those invited are roughly the top .7% of applicants, so everyone will have stellar stats, so it will take less precedence, although I will be careful to say don’t compare yourself to other invitees because you are all there for a reason. Be yourself and good luck, I’m sure you’ll run into me at some point, but we just won’t know it

@SuperfrogFan What are your tips for the presentation? I’m super nervous for it.

@miichael Practice a few times. Don’t write a script, but have a general idea of what you want to say. Be conversational, stay within the time limit. I personally videoed myself practicing so I could see what I liked and didn’t. Everyone has natural nervousness in these situations, so take deep breaths, speak clearly and slowly (we tend to speak fast when nervous so by speaking slowly it will actually be at normal speed).

Not sure what you want to say? Some ideas of what to talk about:

  • Why do you like TCU/ why did you apply
  • What are some life goals (research, career, college experience)
  • Highlight communities you are a part of and what you have learned from them that you will continue to apply
  • What you are most proud of, what you have overcome (obviously don’t be bragadocious, but also don’t sell yourself short)

I know we love to wrap up high school presentations by saying “soooo yeah, thanks” but try to have a logical ending, which could be an affirmation that you are open to discussing parts of it more/ open to questions.

If you are staying with a host on campus I’m sure they’d give you tips, and all your fellow invitees feel the same way! Don’t be afraid to talk to them, after all they might have a different background, but you are all in the same situation!

Get a good night’s sleep and enjoy your time; you’ll do great!

@SuperfrogFan Thanks so much for the tips!
I was wondering if you would be able to answer one more question. The prompt for the presentation is “The TCU Mission is: To educate individuals to think and act as ethical leaders and responsible citizens in the global community. The past and present Chancellor’s Scholars have served as student leaders by embracing and epitomizing the mission. How have you embodied the TCU mission, and how will you continue to uphold it as a student at the University?” so I was wondering if we should really focus on answering the prompt or if we should just treat the presentation as if we were answering a more open ended tell me about yourself type question?
Thank you again!

@pizza468 Now that I think back I believe that was my prompt, too. I treated it as more of an open ended question, but didn’t disregard it. In reference to my suggestions in my previous reply, they can tie back to personality traits / skills / abilities that will contribute to the mission; it’s up to you to decide how to connect the them.

Thank you for the help @SuperfrogFan!

Happy Tuesday y’all! I had so much fun this time around at CSW getting to be on the other side of the process, and every candidate I met was wonderful! I’m waiting in anticipation with everyone, let’s stay patient for a few weeks
Also I just wanted to share that it is a good idea when opening all kinds of decisions to video it. Wherever you end up, then you can have a record of where your journey began to look back on. As always, go frogs!

Does anyone have an idea when the letters will be sent regarding whether we got the scholarship? It seemed like last year was March 9th ish, but I heard as late as March 17th.

@gamerdood08 I hope they come out around the 8th like last year but the sooner the better. It would stink if we had to wait until the 17th.

Hello! Does anyone know if this event included transfer students or if it was just for the incoming freshman?

@gamerdood08 mine was extremely late so that sounds about right. If you do get accepted into TCU message me I run one of the gaming discords ill add you to it. Take care and good luck.

@Sunshine43016 it should include both transfers and freshman if accepted

Do they notify us through portal or just regular mail?

@miichael I pretty sure that they will notify us through the mail

@miichael @pizza468 It will be through FedEx mail

Well, it would appear friday March 6th is NOT Chancellors notification :))))

Maybe next week…

No envelope has arrived here yet. We are 2 hours north of Fort Worth. Our Fed Ex does tend to arrive late in the day.

I was hoping it would be today but i guess it will probably be next Friday

What about tomorrow? And does FedEx arrive with regular mail or alone?
