@Tangledfan Not necessarily. Our son is a Regents at UCSB and didn’t get a Chancellor’s invite. However, this year they seem to be coming out at about the same time, so you’ll either get the Regents soon or won’t.
Does anyone’s portal show they have been admitted yet?
@WantInternship You won’t see that until regular decisions come out, but don’t worry.
The portals don’t change until official acceptances in March, but in- state Chancellor’s reception attendees are told of their acceptance at the reception
Can someone tell me what is the Chancellor invite for if Regents is a separate notification?
You can consider it as a likely letter
Although I applied as a domestic applicant, I am very new to the USA. I just got the same letter. What is this for?
How are people notified and is there an event in Chicago?
Events are in Washington DC (Mar 3), New York City (Mar 4), Costa Mesa (Mar 10), Los Angeles (Mar 11) and San Jose (Mar 18). Invites are a small plain envelope containing a card which lists the dates and invites you to register (for whichever event you want, it’s not geographically restricted to your home location).
I assume the east coast invites were sent out slightly earlier because those are the first dates on the calendar. I have no idea if they decided not to send invites to people in other regions who might otherwise be identified as “top applicants”.
DD received UCSB Regents Scholarship in the mail today. She had received Chancellor’s reception invite last Thu 2/15/2018 in the mail. We are SoCal residents.
Got UCSB Regents Scholarship letter in the mail today! SoCal resident.
My son received the chancellor’s reception invite yesterday, and today he received the Regents- NorCal
I was surprised to see that the vast majority of the people UCSB invites to be Regents scholars apparently turn them down. They say ~2% of admitted students are offered Regents, so that would be about 500 offers (~27,000 were admitted last year, see http://bap.ucsb.edu/institutional.research/campus.profiles/campus.profiles.2017.18.pdf). But it seems like only a few dozen actually attend (e.g. https://www.noozhawk.com/article/072108_ucsb_selects_35_regents_scholars), so the enrollment rate appears to be well below the 16.9% enrollment rate for all freshmen.
Presumably even more of those offered Regents were treating UCSB as something of a fallback school compared to UCB, UCLA etc or they get great merit offers elsewhere. However the good news is that being a Regents scholar at UCSB is a more unique privilege if they are less than 1% of the entering class.
Does anyone just receive the Chancellor’s Invite and NOT the Regent’s Scholarship? DD has received the Invite (on Saturday), but no Regent’s, at least not yet. I suppose it come Tuesday, but was wondering if Chancellor’s means Regent’s…
@jlarbs They are separate. Hope you get more good news Tuesday & congrats on Chancellor’s invite!
Got my Chancellor’s invite and Regents notification in the mail this week. I’m from NorCal. SAT: 1540, GPA (10th, 11th): 4.0/4.0 UW
Has anyone from out-of-state received the Regents Scholarship notification? My daughter received the Chancellor’s invite last Tuesday, but nothing yet on Regents(Pennsylvania resident going to the NYC reception)
@jlarbs D in same situation. Chancellor’s invite on Sat and hoping for regents to arrive on Tuesday mail. Actually got 2 chancellor’s invites so initially thought one was regent’s notification. :))
Has anyone from New England received Chancellor invites or Regents?
@college2022c I thought I saw one from Connecticut going to the NYC reception
