Chancellor's Scholarship

^ I got a tshirt a week after I got denied an interview.

Sooo, does that mean those of you who were turned down a Chancellor interview received a letter to that effect? Son has received absolutely no correspondence on the Chancellor, and as mentioned in my earlier post, he sent his materials in before Thanksgiving. Receiving the tee-shirt was almost counter-productive as he is interpreting it as a consolation prize.

According to ealier posts in this thread, those who were denied an interview received a letter. I would call the person administering the process and ask them about it. I am thinking about doing the same and my son sent his chancellor's submission in late December.

MY DS1 did not do the application - though he was invited to - and got the t-shirt this week too. I do not think one has anything to do with the other.

S received invitation late November and submitted all essays on 12/12. Still has not heard either way. A friend of his received the t-shirt but no invitation to apply for scholarship, so I am inclined to agree with moewb

My impression was that nothing (and I mean nothing) other than the invitation to interview is run through the Honors college. All of the stuff we are getting (i got a tee shirt) as well as the decision on what kind of scholarship you got (10k, full tuition, etc) is done by the admissions office. My interviewers (including Dr. Stewart the dean) had no idea what scholarship i had gotten. They asked and when I told them full tuition Dr. Stewart told me, "good I am glad that the admissions office is doing THEIR job." When I mentioned that it was cool that i was getting so much stuff they agreed and said that ADMISSIONS did a good job with that. Therefore there is not connection between the stuff and offers you have gotten and the UHC people who run the chancellors program.

I got a t-shirt as well, but it actually said "Pittsburgh University Honors Program" or whatever. Admissions has sent me a ton of stuff though, thats right.

Mine says University Honors College as well but I am still 95% sure that it came from admissions (from what they said). I don't think the Honors colleges is directly involved in that kind of recruiting.

Here is the website for the Chancellor's Scholarship:
http://cscholar.honorscollege.pitt.edu/

The FAQ section gives the numbers/odds.

i got an offer to apply for the Chancellor's scholarship but only got $2000 for tuition. i think its because I never sent in a resume. Does anyone know if a person still has a chance for full tuition after they send in the app even if they don't get chancellors?

Yeah, I am pretty sure that is what the chancellors nominee scholarships are for. I think they range from a small amount to full tuition.

Has anyone heard lately about Chancellor interviews? D submitted her package late December. Receipt acknowledged mid January. Nothing since. Anyone else?

Lonestarmom, my S sent in his package in Mid-December and also has not hear anything further. I did call the Honors College last week and was told that "due to the current economic climate, this year's response has been substantially greater". Good luck to your D

Thanks, Jacob. It's nice to know that we're not the only ones waiting. Best of luck to your son!

Yes, thank you. My son is in exactly the same boat. His submission date was on 12/23.

I submitted mine December 5th and still haven't heard anything.

S just received letter that he was not invited for Chancellor interview. Because of this, Pitts is no longer an option as previous scholarship from U of Pitts doesn't even come close to other scholarship offers he has received. So here's my question: What is the protocol for my S to notify U of Pitts that he is declining admission and scholarships?

lost lawyer, do you know when your son's deadline was?

Once again, it emphasizes the point to apply early to Pitt. Son applied early...I want to say sometime in September, got his full tuition and his invitation to chancellors at that time. His chancellors was due in early mid-November, and he received notification early January that he is a finalist. I wonder how things would have gone if he applied a month later??

Lostlawyer, You probably just don't accept the offer! However, I suppose it is kinder to let them know you aren't going to accept by calling admissions...that might free up the scholarship money for someone else??

Just send a letter saying you won't be attending the school but I would do it after you have made your final decision. Son sent a letter to every school he turned down so it was easier to do it all at the same time. I've heard that scholarship money that is turned down is not given out to someone else -- maybe someone else can confirm this.
