Chances at Cal Poly SLO?

I know this will definitely be a reach. But should I even bother applying?

ACT: 26
SAT: 1540 (not going to submit it though)
Cumulative GPA: 3.8889
UC/CAL GPA: 3.67

I would have taken 6 total APs by the end of high school, and 6 total honors classes.

Highest math class I've taken is AP stats/calc.

Highest science would be physics.

I have about 80+ community service hours.

However I'm going to apply for the most impacted major which is mechanical engineering.

Gender: female
Race: asian

Don't think those make a big difference, but just in case.

I do know some experiences told me some users on here, so I would love reading any other experiences regarding your acceptance, etc. It disappoints me how other people I know will probably get accepted for liberal arts, but I probably won't since engineering is overpopulated.

Cal states don't require essays do they? Or is if optional to include one? Because I really need to provide anything that will boost my chances that don't concern my grades and test scores.

SLO will definitely be a reach. My son had 4 friends apply last year with UC GPA’s of 4.2+ and SAT scores of 2100+ and all were denied except 1. The others got into USCB/UCLA/UCSD and even UCB. Cal States will not accept essays or any other documentation. My younger son applied for CS with a UC 3.73 and ACT 31 was denied but we knew it was a long shot. He is currently attending SDSU and his roommate is an ME major, also denied by SLO with a UC GPA 4.1 and SAT score of 2000. The only advantage you have going for you is a female engineer but it will not overcome the low GPA and test scores. Average GPA for Engineering was 4.12 ACT 32 SAT 1406 (Math+CR).

I don’t want to be a downer but as you can see, SLO is super competitive…

You should consider CPP, CSULB, CSUF and SDSU as possible alternatives along with UCR and UCSC.
