I will be in my senior year at my high school this coming fall and wanted to know if my chances for these universities are realistic.
I am a male African American who has a GPA of 3.16 for all my 3 years in high school. I got a 1530 on my SAT- 510 reading, 530 math, 490 writing but plan on re taking it again. I have played football ands lacrosse all 3 years also. I plan on majoring in business administration.
I know my grades are low but what is a good ballpark estimate of where my grades and scores should be? Also does anyone have any advice they'd like to give me?

With that SAT, ZooMass is probably a no. 2 of my classmates applied with slightly higher scores (1700-1850 range) and similar GPA; one was waitlisted, while the other was a spring admit. The first girl applied for nursing and the second was undecided. The second girl was also full pay and they suggested she travel/take courses somewhere else for the fall. I am honestly not sure how she got in apart from having $$$. However, I think this year was particularly tough…even still, getting into UMass is no longer a guarantee for the average/below-average student even if they are from MA.

Penn State is even more of a longshot.

You should re-take the SAT, try for a higher GPA…do you have any other extracurriculars? They may not matter much but I’m just wondering.

UMass Amherst: Reach
