Chances at Wharton

Hi, I just want anyone’s input on whether I can get into Wharton ED with these stats.

GPA: 4.42
Class Rank: 3/55
SAT: 2270 (740 on CR and Math, 790 on Writing)

ECs: student government 4 years (ASB secretary)
debate 4 years
Harvard Model Congress 3 years
Interact Club 3 years
Robotics Club 2 years
Spanish Honor Society 3 years (secretary)
Math Honor Society 3 years (secretary)
Science Honor Society 3 years (treasurer)
Congresswoman Anna Eshoo’s Student Advisory Board (technology officer)
soccer 2 years (team MVP)
track 3 years
Chinese school since kindergarten
cello since kindergarten

awards: National Merit Scholar semifinalist
AP Scholar with Honors

summer activities: worked at Buddhist camp in Taiwan for a month
attended New York Film Academy classes
Presidential Classroom Entrepreneurship & Global Business Program
internship for business

The one thing I’m really worried about is my SAT II Math IIC score (710). How much will that affect my app?

Thanks a lot ahead of time for any input.

boy or girl? and where are you from?

asian male from CA

you have really great ec's and you are applying ed, so you have a shot. Are you being recruitted?

Asian male from CA?

Probably not.

I'm an asian male from CA applying ED to Wharton as well.

But since the new data has been released (26% increase in ED Wharton applicants, 50% increase in ED Cali applicants) it's doubtful for all of us.

:(

hey! where did you find "state by state increase" stats????? do you know gender stats too??????

I hope you realize a 26% increase ED Wharton doesn't decrease your chances of getting in by THAT much... saying "it's doubtful for all of us" just shows how you put too much weight into stastics like these--sure, they're helpful, but it DEFINITELY is nothing that will break ANYONE's chances for sure..

Location isn't a HUGE factor either, so neither of those statistics should discourage you too much..

I think you have a really good chance! are you taiwanese-american?
to be honest, ur SATII math might be a concern since many people applying to wharton get 800. but ur ec is great and you seem very involved! good business background! i would be happy for people like you get into wharton under ED! u have my support!

Thanks metaphor. And yes, I'm taiwanese-american.

Dont you need to have some sort of interest in Business to even consider Wharton?

Hey, I just wanted to digress here by asking a question about the Math 2 SAT II. I understand that for math-oriented schools (business schools like Wharton or engineering schools like MIT) like to see an 800 for the Math 2, since it's important to have a strong math background. What about an arts and science school? Do they necessarily "need" to see an 800 or would 750+ be acceptable? Of the schools I'm applying to (including Penn), I've chosen to be a part of the school of arts and science (or the equivalent), and Math 2 is one of the SAT IIs I'm submitting. However, it's not necessarily an 800. I'll most likely major in chemistry and go into pre-med, so will it be detrimental that I won't have an 800 or even 750 on the Math 2? (I got a 710 on it) Thanks!

quickcat88: I think you have excellent chances, by the way!

Wow.. looks great. I'm Taiwanese-American too (yessir.. one of the million Taiwanese-American kids applying to Wharton.. except I'm not very special.. sigh) .. did you by any chance work with Tzu Chi?

contrary to what's been posted here, your ECs really arent that outstanding compared to other wharton applicants

I disagree. I can see potential in this guy.

heyyy fellow california hmc-er

what positions did you have when you did it?
it's my first year doing it since at my school, only juniors & seniors can do it
sooo i'm having some fun researching and all that ;)

kat

Not to be offensive, but I predict rejected.
Most probably becuase you're an Asian male, and you're extracurriculars don't make you really stand out from this ethnicity. Also, you're applying from California, which is competitive as is, and probably has lower matriculation rates than other states due to its distance.
My advice, right compelling reasons why you want Wharton. I think that's your only chance. Wharton wants to maintain high matriculation rates, and would prefer to accept those who it will think it will attend, especially from California. Without a compelling reason, I'd say about 0.5% chance. With that, maybe 7%.
