chances for NYU, BU, UT honors + some private liberal arts schools?

Hey guys, I just joined & am very anxious about applying to some of these colleges haha..

I'm female, chinese, attending a large public school in texas

SAT: reading 740/math 680/writing 740 (2160 composite)
SAT IIs: literature 680/us hist 660 (retaking, probably math I instead of us hist)
Weighted GPA/rank at middle of junior year: 3.99; 149/1288 (both GPA and rank are probably a little higher now)
AP scores: world hist 4/ english language 5/ spanish language 4/ art 3
I am taking the ACT next week and anticipating a 31-33.

throughout grades 9-11 i've been pretty much an a/b student, a lot better in english than in math/sciences.

This year i'm taking:
dual credit econ/gov (counts as honors)
ap art history
ap english lit
ap spanish lit
ap statistics
ap physics b

What makes me the most nervous is that I don't have many ECs-
member of NHS (maybe around 100 hrs community service for this?)
member of habitat for humanity
member of invisible children club
member of spanish club
North TX youth honor society
(as you can see, no leadership positions really).

also kind of iffy about my rec letters, i haven't been the most outgoing/assertive student in my classes..
i should be able to get a really good one from my art teacher from junior year, but i'm not sure how much this will help me since it's not an "academic" class.

definitely applying for financial aid, i'm pretty sure i have significant "need."

colleges i am applying to:
BU
NYU (NOT stern).
UT liberal arts honors program
tufts (this is my favorite)
wesleyan
vassar
carnegie mellon?
middlebury?

also, i need a few more safety or "match" schools, because right now UT is my only one. I really want to go out of state, preferably northeast.

thanks in advance!!

lol dont be anxious, relax. breathe. anyway

BU: match/low reach
NYU (NOT stern):mid reach/high reach
UT liberal arts honors program: idk
tufts (this is my favorite): mid reach/high reach
wesleyan:idk
vassar:idk
carnegie mellon?:high reach
middlebury?:idk

lol i havent heard of many of these colleges so i dont know

thanks
i didn’t think carnegie mellon was that competitive…? they have a higher acceptance rate than many of the other colleges on my list.

I think that BU, NYU and Tufts are all solid matches for your. Carnegie Mellon would be more of a reach (while they have a higher acceptance rate…I THINK it depends on the program…[not sure] ). UT is a safetly I believe and I’m not sure about the liberal arts colleges, haven’t looked them up a lot.
Good luck!!

well that makes me feel better haha, i really want to get into tufts!

BU Match
NYU (NOT stern). Reach
UT liberal arts honors program Math
tufts (this is my favorite) low Reach
wesleyan ?
vassar?
carnegie mellon? Reach
middlebury?

chance me back please http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/776076-chances-bu-ed.html

does anyone know if i’d be more likely to get into tufts if i applied ED? because my parents want me to.

Tufts is the hardest school to get into on your list. ED does help there.

It’s a good year at CMU if you are full pay. It will be hard to get significant need met there. You will have the same issue with NYU and BU, I think you have a good shot at those but getting need met will be hard.

Wes, Tufts and Middlebury will be hard because you fall outside of the top 10% of your class.

I would add schools that meet full need that are slightly less competitive than these such as Bates, Carleton, Macalaster, Davidson, Beloit.

thanks hmom5 that was really helpful. i might apply to carleton, not sure yet, because i didn’t visit it and i don’t know how i would do in rural minnesota lol. i’m pretty sure i’m in the top 10% now though, just barely.

I feel like B.U. should be your safety… it’s so much worse than Carnegie Mellon, Tufts, Vassar, and NYU (the others I don’t know about). Maybe apply to BC instead of BU?

Davidson and Carleton wouldn’t be on the same level as Beloit and Macalester. 85%+ of Davidson and Carletonstudents graduated in the top 10% of their high school class, Davidson’s acceptance rate hovers around 25%, Carleton’s around 28%. Davidson and Carleton are in the same echelon as Bowdoin, Wesleyan, Middlebury, Haverford, etc., being slightly less selective than Midd and Wes. Beloit has an acceptance rate of 63% and Macalaster’s is around 42%. The latter two aren’t really in the same league as Davidson or Carleton.

Might look at Holy Cross- very good LAC- located 1 hour from Boston. HC has good financial aid program and nice campus.

is that affiliated with a church?

Holy Cross is a Jesuit college just like Georgetown, Boston College, Fordham and 24 other colleges in the USA. The Jesuits are a Catholic religious order.

Here is the complete list of the 28 Jesuit Colleges in the USA:
