chances for oos waiver or scholarship

what are my chances. i plan to major in chemical engineering. I am ranked 3/278. Will have 10AP's by graduation. 4.0 unweighted, 4.95 weighted. I live in a smaller town outside of charlotte. White, male. Decent EC's.

my sat scores were math:680, CR:640, W:620 Total:1940

I assume you are asking about next year, correct?

yes, im a junior this year.

Obviously, your class rank and course selection will be working in your favor. I think you could help yourself by getting your math and CR SAT score above 1,400. That, plus a good resume of EC's will make you very competitive IMO. But keep in mind that with the current swell of applicants, competition is keener than it has ever been before.

Your GPA and class rank are good. Keep it up through your Senior year. Work on your SAT scores and ECs and you will be fine. Traditionally, set minimum requirements are a 1350 SAT and top 5% (or is it 10%? I can't remember, but you have it either way) to get an OOS waver. However, this may vary ever so slightly. I got one. Here are my stats (I'm a white male as well):

SAT: 2020/2400; 1340/1600 (math: 670, CR: 670, Writing: 680)
GPA: 4.0 uw; 4.31 weighted
Solid ECs
Many academic awards/honors
Top 5% of senior class (in reality, probably top 2-3%, but I'm not sure)
Took the hardest classes my school offered

I was awarded in-state tuition plus a $500 renewable scholarship for 4 years. Remember, though, that Clemson admissions are getting much more competitive. You will probably need to do better than this to get an award, and the group after you will have to do better. They are getting that much more competitive! Another thing to consider is that I applied in mid-October, and got an acceptance packet about a month later. Sending it in early may have helped, as they probably wanted to try to lock in someone early who would traditionally be competitive for an award. Maybe and maybe not, but it is something to consider.

Bring up your SAT scores, and maintain your GPA and class rank for the rest of your Senior year and you should get an award. I would also suggest aplying really early. It may help and it may not, but it certainly wouldn't hurt :).

I hope this helped. Good luck! :)

P.S. If you get one, it will tell you about it on your acceptance letter.

wahoo makes good points. I know a couple of people with similar GPA but higher SAT scores who applied later and they didn't get anything. So I think applying earlier does make a difference.

Try to raise your SAT's, and possibly take the ACT. Other than that, keep up the good work.
