If my chances are low can you tell me what I can do to increase them. That would help alot!!

You don’t qualify for either school auto admit at the moment.

You may qualify for academic admission at A&M if your SAT score split works as outlined.

[Academic Admits](http://admissions.tamu.edu/freshmen/gettingin/waysAdmitted/academic.aspx)

“achieve a combined SAT Math and SAT Critical Reading score of at least 1300 with a test score of at least 600 in each of these components”

I read a post recently stating that A&M will restrict engineering to top 5% starting this year.

Have you considered UH, Texas Tech and UT Dallas?

so basically i have no chance for either?

I think you have a very good chance of getting into both schools

really even with my low gpa and an engineering major??

texaspg why do you think my chances are low

seattlebulldog - how do you reach that conclusion since Texas has specific rules based on class rank for both those schools?

Chris - You have an auto admission shot at A&M if your scores meet the rule stated. Whether you can get in to EE is something that might be based on some new rules I have not seen published.

It will be difficult to get into UT Austin. If you are class of 2014, you need to be in the top 7% to be automatically admitted, and 75% of their students are automatically admitted. This means that you are competing with OOS students and the rest of Texas students for the remaining 25% of spots available. It can be done, though. It will just be difficult.

I’m sorry, I don’t know anything about TAMU.

One option is to go to a school like UT San Antonio or UT Tyler for a year, then transfer to UT Austin. I knew somebody who was just outside the auto-admit mark who did this. It worked quite well for him.

Best of luck to you!

"texaspg why do you think my chances are low "

UT is top 7% and they have only about 5% of seats in their holistic process which is now being decided in the Supreme Court. It is quite possible UT will admit you in that holistic process but you don’t stand a chance of getting into EE as part of the holistic process since they do their own admissions. EE is a top 10 program.

You still have not specified a breakdown of your scores to see if you qualify for an automatic admission at A&M. Again, if they do restrict admissions to Engineering based on the rank, you won’t make the cut.

Math:650
CR:650
W:600

That seems exact for A&M academic admit which means you will be admitted.

Here is what someone posted and I have seen no published info and so it is hearsay at the moment. Since A&M follows first come first serve according to the poster, I suggest you apply as soon as applications open.

UT - Reach because your rank is too low. I think you can improve your chances for the few holistic review spots with a better SAT or ACT score. For engineering you need to focus on improving math score. Obviously because the competition is great you have to get great LOR and write very good optional essays. I’ve also heard that EE is one of few majors in Cockrell that might be undersubscribed.

TAMU - as stated in other posts, academic auto admit. But you have to apply early and make every part of your app count in order to get into engineering.
