Chances for UT-Austin?

I think your chances are pretty fair, it really depends on what you are applying to, imo I think you have a 80% chance of making it into UT, the only thing I see wrong is the fact that you are asian, and the asian community here is insanely large... the top 2 names this year in my freshmen class were Nguyen and Chi followed by Patel and Smith... so ya you are going to have plenty of competition.

I didn't see where you said what major you wanted into... business is going to be hard for you, but anything else you should get into with ease.

As for Texas A&M you are a shoe in, that can be your safety school if you would like. It's also a good school.

But ya 80/100, you will more then most likely get in with good recs and essays, you have great ECs. Alot of it weighs on slots available for your major, and they may come back offering you a undecided entrance, so think about that.

Like I said the only thing going against ya is that you are Asian, and alot of asian people apply to UT, i mean ALOT.

Good luck, I think you will get in, I'd like to hear back when you do.

Haha, the Asian thing is true, but the thing about UT Austin not being that great of a school isn't. -.-

I consider myself more of an Aggie but I have to give credit where it's due, and UT definitely has a good reputation. I've heard nothing but good things about their Engineering department. Austin's also a great city, you'll only be bored if you make zero effort to get out.

Have you already applied for housing? I went to a UT - A&M joint info session and they mentioned that the housing app opens before everything else is due, and the higher your number on the list, the better chance you have of getting a good dorm. I'm pretty bad about dates, especially since I don't have to worry about it for another year, but I think that date passed already...SO GO! GO!

By the way, if you get in, Dobie has some pretty nice rooms...>.>
Compared to some of the other ones I've seen / stayed in for various camps.

^lol yea I did apply for housing pretty early.. I think about 20 days since applications began. Hopefully, they'll consider my applying early when they look at my transcript and stuff lol

I'm sure UT is a great school, although all I hear (from where I live) is that it's a big party school. I have some family in Texas, and they consider it a party school.. -_- But there's parties in every colleges anyway.

Hey what other dorms are nice? ..like if I don't get Dobie. I really want one that's ... nice and not too big on social scene (aka parties). =]

UT is huge. any huge school is gonna have a good party scene. but it also has alot of smart kids and i'm sure there is something for everyone. austin is a pretty cool city (i live here).

with your stats i'd recommend looking into the honors programs. then you can try to get into the honors housing, cuz there are a few honors dorms in a little honors quad which you'd prolly be more suited for.
