I'm scared the colleges might think I am putting on a 'show')

I have applied for a Chemistry major, with a pre-med/pre-dental focus. I either want to be a clinical oncologist or dentist

What are my chances to:
Harvard
Yale
Dartmouth
Stanford

Georgetown
UChicago
Johns Hopkins
Vanderbilt
Emory
Tulane
Wake

Thanks in advance.

--Pbar

didnt harvard deadline just pass?

no.. they asked for stuff by the 15th (earlier than deadline) but it doesn't help or anything, so i'm waiting as well.

you look, you haave high scores and high gpa. Your ec's are lacking a bit, but if you can pull off your essay you will be in good shape. Harvard and Yale are always tossups but Dartmouth looks good, Stanford is probably no, Georgetown, UChicago, Wash U, and JHU all look good.

Is it possible to have a 5 on the BC without a 5 on the AB subscore? Seems a bit redundant.

^ it is possible, although extremely rare.

The EC's aren't lacking, I think everything is good. However, better people always get rejected, so it depends on what kind of personality your teacher recs, counselor recs, and your essays delineate. Why no Penn, Columbia, and Brown?

Harvard- (nearly impossible) reach
Yale- (nearly impossible) reach
Dartmouth- (nearly impossible) reach
Stanford- (nearly impossible) reach
WashU-reach/match
Georgetown-reach
UChicago-reach/match
Johns Hopkins-reach/match
Vanderbilt-reach/match
Emory-reach
Tulane-reach/match
Wake-reach/match

gpa/sats only average for ivies, and ecs are good but not uncommon.

dont listen to ranger. you know there's something wrong when theyre telling someone with 1520 that WFU is a reach/match. Wake forest has 50% range of 1250-1390!!!!! are you kidding me? he scored 130 points higher than 75% of their students. its DEFINITELY not a reach/match. more like a match/safety. same goes for tulane, they have an average SAT of 1344. and dont tell me anything about legacies and athletes, cause that doesnt make a 150 point difference.

anyways. HYS id say close to impossible maybe not, youll find out i guess, but thats some pretty awesome debating. others you stand a chance at. and some you stand a very very very good chance at.

i keep at reach/match instead of match because colleges are so unpredicatable. our valedictorian (now at Yale) got rejected from BC. explain that! so i think i was quite reasonable. if you say they are saftey or matches, people can get overconfident and really disappointed if rejected.

Ranger, if this guy gets rejected from Tulane than I am becoming a monk, because I will realize that everything I think I understand about this world is wrong.

Your valedictorian got rejected or waitlisted BC because they did not think he was a serious candidate, not because of his actual rejection.

Here's his true chances:

Harvard- High reach
Yale- High reach
Dartmouth- Medium reach
Stanford- High reach
WashU- Match
Georgetown- Reach
UChicago- Match
Johns Hopkins- Match
Vanderbilt- Match
Emory- Match/ Safety
Tulane- Safety
Wake- Match/ Safety

bump

ahah college admissions are so unpredictable, why do u guys bother predicting them and acting as if u know what will happen and then argue about it?

anyways pbar, im just an average student (but i got into my school!!!) ahem , and so im not gonna act like i know any more than u, so on top of everything, GOOD LUCK! ^_^

bump............thanks to everyone for their evaluations.....i appreciate it.......can i get a few more responses as to where I stand.......and then I'll shut up........thanks a lot

bump.....................

your scores and ec's are really solid for the schools you're looking at. I don't really know why you'd take your satII's over (to make 790 math an 800??) ... I really don't think you have to worry about them. Probably you'd be better just spending that effort on finishing apps (if you procrastinate like some of us...) and keeping your grades up. As for your essays, if its true and you feel passionate about it then you'll always tread a fine line, but its really going to depend on who reads it anyway. It has as fair a shot as a nonemotional essay, at least, since you always have the chance someone will really empathize. I doubt they'd penalize you for a topic it would just be too stupid to fake. anyway ... I think you've got a good shot even at your reaches and best of luck in the months to come.

Don't listen to Ranger, his reach/match/safety analysis is complete BS

yeah dont listen to ranger

ull be surprised what kinda people get in. This kid got in with only 4.0, ecs hardly comparable to urs (his were nto very good), and a 1450 SAT. He got in to stanford, when all these other kids with much better everything got deferred.

Its all luck of the draw

good luck, ill be applyin to those places, and i have smiliar stuff like u, a bit worse grades, a bit better ec's.

thanks everyone for the feedback.

Im sending out the last few college apps in the next couple of days, and I will be keeping my fingers crossed. Good luck to everyone else as well!

Like my essays about my mom are pretty emotional, and I agree that they prolly wont misconstrue them as fake. I hope that the essays r good (a few ppl have started crying while reading them, but thats prolly coz they knew my mom), coz from what Ive read, ivy's look at them pretty seriously

any more feedback is appreciated.

bumpety bump
