I'm in IB in Florida
4.76 weighted
3.34 unweighted
I've taken AP Gov, art studio, Us history scoring 4, 4, 2 respectively
I'm in my senior year (9 IB points so far)
1700 SATs (i know, sucks, i took it as a prep for the next one)

I'm in:
NHS 2 years
Best Buddies 3 years
Swim team (captain hopefully) 3 years
Water polo (captain) 3 years
and other miscellaneous clubs

I've been in:
Wrestling 2 years
Drama 1 year
Track 1 year
Cross Country 1 year

I have plenty of community service and CAS hours.

Hey! We’re applying to the same school(s) except… you have a lot more activities than I do.

As far as NYU, you need to take 2 SAT II’s. Take whichever you’d be best at. If you’re in IB, this parallels what your HL subjects are. Bio HL -> SAT 2: Bio (if you take SAT Bio, you can decide between a test focused on molecular or a test focused on ecology; play to your strengths). Considering you did poorly on AP USH, I would not recommend you take any of the SAT History tests (there’s 2: U.S. and World). Just pick which you feel you know the best and you shall do well, following you remember a majority of the material. There’s at least a thousand threads dedicated to SAT II Tests in general and specific.

As far as UF, I’ve read and witnessed that it is very random. However, Florida colleges tend to appreciate IB grads more so than other states, which is an advantage for you. I would defiantly raise your unweighted GPA as best as you could; either that or bump up your SAT and make sure you do well on your SAT II’s. And just to ensure you’re a “well-rounded student” (as if IB doesn’t do that already), aim for a leadership position in a club that’s not a sport. Considering everybody in IB has the same stats (200+ community service, NHS, 2 sports, etc.), try to make yourself unique. Look for hooks (1st one in your family to go to college; minority status; etc.)

For FSU, the latest Common Data Set indicates an FSU calculated GPA (academic courses only) of 3.25 to 3.49 (out of 4.0) constitutes 13.6% of the enrolled class. The average GPA is 3.71/4.0.

FSU weighs GPA and academic rigor more heavily than SAT/ACT scores. Your IB coursework is in your favor.

I think it’s too late for OP to raise their unweighted GPA. You might as well focus on your SAT, I think the latest you can take it is in October.

ibfailure: Just wondering, how does everybody in IB have 2 sports?

I’ve tried to raise my unweighted, im taking 2 AP’s online as we speak that should hopefully bring me up to 3.5 or so, and SAT def needs to be higher; i took it no practice because i was studying for usual exams. and I’m VP in both NHS and Best Buddies.

i dont really have any hooks;

im white, mom went to college, and bulgarian (no one pays attention to us)

I’m really hoping for a YES for FSU and UF and a maybe for NYU

moskov I am also taking 2 AP’s online. We are both now in/approaching our senior year. The AP credit is only added to our transcript after we take the AP exam (assuming you are doing FLVS), which is in May. By this time it is too late to have the improved GPA for colleges to see.

Honestly I think the best thing you could do is take the SAT again with practice.

buggger: Because most schools do not allow IB candidates to get all of their hours from one activity, most students disperse their activities. The most obvious choice is to do two sports (one in the fall, one in winter/spring); that way, they have enough hours, add it to their resumes, and stay fit during IB.

I’m taking Computer Science and Environmental Science. I don’t know why so many people take only economics though… I guess it’s really easy/short for the GPA.

Well both of the AP Exam policies I’ve signed for my classes state that I only get credit after I take the AP exam (which is when I finish the class). Are you sure thats what your teacher(s) said?

No way moskov, I had to see for my self. The FLVS site ([AP Courses from Florida Virtual School (FLVS)](http://www.flvs.net/areas/flvscourses/Pages/APCourses.aspx)) claims that
“Florida students are required to take May AP Exams as part of FLVS AP course requirements. AP course credit will not be issued to a student’s high school transcript until verification of participation in an AP Exam. This occurs at the end of May each year.”

Anyways I will be applying to UF and FSU as well and I’m hoping to raise my SAT. Best of luck to you and hope it turns out well

well its either that, or my flvs teacher deliberately lied to me lol. either way, heads will roll if I don’t get the credit by the time of completion.

And goodluck to you too, the SAT’s are a pain, I need to try for the ACT as well

The FSU/UF GPA is based only on core courses, not electives. By senior year, about the only things that will go toward your GPA calculation is your math, english, social studies and science classes, as well as any language you might still be taking. The art studio class will not be in your GPA calculation, even if it is an AP class. I do believe that if you finish the FLVS class and a grade is posted, it will be considered even if you have not taken the AP class, but it only matters if it is a core class.

What math courses have you taken or will take? What science? Give us a breakdown of what you have taken each year. That will help.

I think you are in at FSU. I don’t know about NYU. UF is a crap shoot. Students with your credentials get in, but many many do not.
