Chances of getting admittted at Davidson ED

I am a Junior who attends a competitive Catholic high school.
SAT: WR-640 M-700 CR-660 (I plan to retake with hopes of getting above 2100)
I will have taken five AP classes by the end of high school: AP US History, AP European History, AB AP Calculus, AP Statistics, AP English
GPA: 3.3 unweighted
Rank: 42 out of 227
Extracurriculars: All-State Clarinet, Concert Band freshmen and sophomore year(would have continued but I dropped band in order to take a math class in the morning but the school wouldn't let me switch and I never ended joining the band again), Indoor Track freshmen year, Varsity Golf team sophomore junior and senior year, Billiards Club Champion freshmen sophomore junior and senior year(expected), National Honors Society, English Honors Society, over 140 hours of community service(mostly helping out with Special Olympics Golf and Basketball), Ambassadors Club, raised over $800 for Make-A-Wish through fundraising events one summer, raised over $10,000 for Make-A-Wish through organizing a charity golf tournament another summer, nominated to attend the National Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine
Recommendations- they will be great
Work Experience- I work at a golf course during the summer
I'm out of state, male and a first-generation college student.
Also, would it be easier to get accepted if I said that I would play in their band. I don't know how good you have to be to play in their band though?

I’d definitely retake the SAT with your low GPA. I think you’d likely be deferred to regular decision. Shoe in for Furman though! (shameless plug, I know).

bump…

Davidson is a great school with small enrollment. Another school similar to Davidson is Holy Cross-very nice campus 1 hour from Boston. Holy Cross has a good combination of academics and athletics like Davidson. HC also has fantastic pre-med program and strong alumni network.

bump…

I don’t think your academic record is good enough to get in early decision. I say this because my son was waitlisted this year, regular decision, with much better academics than yours.

However, your ECs are good, and his wasn’t, so you may have a chance regular decision, but my guess would be no for ED.

But obviously, that is just a hunch. If that is your #1 choice, apply ED, and see what happens.

I would strongly advise you to attend one of their special weekends, to demonstrate your interest in the school. My son didn’t do that.

You’re EC’s are definitely very good, but Davidson is an academic institution, so they do look at scores and grades, as well. If you could gain another ~100 points or so on the SAT, I think your chances will shape up. What I would really recommend, though, is to pour everything you have into your essays. A great, humanizing essay could do a lot of good in your admissions journey. I also agree looking in to schools like Holy Cross as a “safety”. Davidson isn’t the be all and end all of institutions of higher learning. I’m sure you’d also be happy at lots of other schools. Best of luck!

I agree about trying to go to weekend event or definitely visit in person. Davidson definitely tracks interest so the number of times you have contact with school is important. They still are sticking with no loan aid guarantee if you qualify, but you didn’t say where you stood on cost. ED is a good way to go if your stats aren’t as high, but it is binding and you won’t know your aid package by then. If you are considering this, I would contact an admissions counselor and be sure you know what your options are. All that said, your GPA and scores are not that high for Davidson (2 daughters accepted but neither went due to cost). You may have hook as first generation college student. Have you checked out Questbridge program? May be worth looking into if low income, but stats still need to be there
