Chances of getting into Cal Poly SLO?

I have a weighted 3.67, SAT was 1090, and I plan on majoring in Child Development. I just wanted to know what my chances were of getting accepted.

Your GPA and test scores are below average for the College of Liberal Arts:
Average CP GPA: 3.94 Average SAT: 1290

Child Development has about a 26% expected acceptance rate, so I would say Low Reach to Reach.

I’m looking at SLO for General Engineering.
I currently have a CSU gpa of 3.6 and have an ACT of 26

Haven’t gotten SAT scores yet

I know I’m below average but just wanted to know my chances.

My son has a weighted GPA of 4.16 and an ACT of 32. He applied to biological sciences. He ran cross country and track and field all 4 years. I was wondering what is his chances of getting in… and in state.

Is everyone hijacking this thread?

Does Cal Poly focus mainly on my Junior and Senior grades or the overall GPA? Junior year I got a 4.0 first semester and 3.9 second. Then Senior year, first semester I got a 4.29. @Gumbymom

@csm09, Cal Poly uses 9th-11th grade GPA for their admissions decisions. Junior year grades are not weighted differently. Senior year grades don’t matter for admissions. If you are accepted, you can’t get below a C in your Senior year classes or they will rescind your admissions.

As stated by @berkeleymom4: SLO uses 9-11th grades in their GPA calculation with up to 8 semesters of extra honors points for UC approved Honors/AP/IB or DE classes taken 10-11th grade. They base their admission decisions on the MCA points (more in depth than the Eligibility index used by the rest of the CSU’s). GPA/Test scores/HS course rigor are the areas where the majority of the MCA points are derived. If you want an explanation of the MCA score see the link: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/cal-poly-san-luis-obispo/1694769-confused-about-mca-score.html

@csm099 What extracurriculars are you involved in?

btw sorry about the hijacking

@SuperAlex Ive been working for four years, since Freshman year. Im on Student Council, Im Yearbook Editor and Chief, Im a Student Ambassador, Im on something at my school called Crusader Crew, Im in a few Honor Societies, and in some Clubs like JSA and Red Cross.

Here’s the thing Cal Poly doesn’t care about any of that. There is one question about extracurriculars how many hours and did you have a leadership position and that gives you a certain number of points.
Having a leadership position in the basket weaving club 20 hours a week for four years and running cross-country 20 hours a week for four years with no leadership position guess which one counts more?

Has anyone heard about admittance in ME OOS yet?

The application questions regarding hours for ECs and hours for work are for last 12 months (and not for 4 years) if I recall correctly. In addition to leadership question there’s a checkbox for related to major which yields still more points.

The related to major check box is for work hours. The leadership check box is for extracurricular.

My point is that students thinking super impressive ec’s will give them a boost need to look at the CSU/Cal Poly app. They do not.

@VickiSoCal I knew they dont take ECs into account.

@csm099 a higher number of hours for ECs (regardless of what it is) is what matters, being able to check the leadership box or not matters. And for work the higher number of hours and being able to check the box if work is related to major matters. The ECs don’t matter as long as you’ve spent a lot of time doing them and at least one of them involved leadership.

Is 4250 a competitive MCA score for business administration major acceptance?

@incomingfrosh408618: MCA data is still being collected so there is no way to know if that is competitive. What are your stats such as CP GPA and Test scores since the bulk of the MCA score is based on these?

Weighted GPA is 3.83 and ACT is 31 Math, 30 English

@incomingfrosh408618; Your ACT is on target but GPA below the average of 4.02. Probably 50/50. I would suggest you start your own thread for your chances, that way all answers are relevant to you and not the original poster.
