Chances of getting into Rutgers spring semester?

So, I applied for Rutgers and have a 2.85 GPA. All of my grades were A’s and no less that B-. Because its been past two years, they do not need my SAT scores… which I don’t even have anyway because I went to a boarding school in a different state and we did not take SATS. (I’m 21 years old)

I wrote a pretty good essay on my profile but looking at all the forums and about the acceptance rate I’m feeling like I have no chance of getting in. Should I be applying to other schools?

I think you can get into Rutgers Newark. Apply to Rutgers Newark as soon as possible if you’re comfortable going there or go to a community college and transfer to Rutgers New Brunswick after 2 years

As long as you do not have any D’s, you should be good. It has become pretty selective within the last few years. With that being said, whether you get in or not depends on the competitiveness of the applicant pool. They admit less people for the spring just because less students tend to enter at that time. I know people with associate’s degrees who get in with sub 3.0 GPAs. New Brunswick tends to want 3.0+ gpas and you didn’t mention having an associates. So that sub 3.0 may be a hurdle. I think the average for transfer SAS applicants was ~3.1-3.7. However I do hear that they tend to read the essay if you’re on the fence. If it shows a strong desire to attend, then this may work in your favor.

@YesPolyglotGal That also depends on your major. You can’t get in to Rutgers Business School NB with less than a 3.5 community college GPA so assuming she just did high school I think it’s tough for her to get into SAS with a 2.85.

Really? Virtually every admissions person I have spoken to says that your major is not factored into your admission. Maybe you mean the specific school to which you’re applying matters. I know people who have gotten into RBS with less than a 3.5 from CC, but not below a 3.0. For that specific school, it probably matters that one has A’s and B’s in the required pre reqs. To imply that someone can’t be admitted with a sub 3.5 is kind of misleading because that’s not really true. The average is 3.4-3.8. Also OP didn’t exactly make it clear that they only have HS under their belt. The first paragraph of their post makes it sound like they could have been taking classes for the previous two years; they didn’t specify. If one only has a HS transcript with a 2.85 GPA, then yeah I would say that RU New Brunswick and perhaps even Newark may be tough to gain admission to.
Also, to OP, if you only have high school under your belt, you may actually need to submit your SATs, as you would technically be a freshman applicant. You should really call admissions and ask them just to be sure.

@YesPolyglotGal Sorry I meant RBS not major :stuck_out_tongue: and I’m from an in-state community college (Middlesex county college) and most of my friends got rejected with below a 3.5 and all of them are going to RBS Newark but again it really depends on the competition of the applicant pool that year so you are right too
