Also part of the band program which has won a grammy.

—Have you taken the SAT? Your in-state status definitely helps—that being said, you know Michigan is a very tough school to get into (currently ranked #4 for publics)…You have some good recommendations—STRESS the U-M professor’s recommendation (nepotism always counts for a LOT at any school)…Maybe High-match/low reach…Good luck!

I did take the SAT but its not as good as my ACT score and I won’t have a chance to retake it for early action because they’re not giving it in my area in October so I probably won’t retake the SAT. I’m retaking the ACT in a couple weeks but I don’t think my score is going to go up by anymore.

So you are from Pioneer, the top UMich feeding school, while your ACT is at the 25% for admission. Your GPA is also below the admission average and perhaps the 25%. Sometimes, being from a feeder may hurt your chance as there are so many pier students competing with you. Try hard this semester to bring up your GPA. If you think you have reached a plateau in ACT already, you should definitely try SAT. There are a ton of prep books in Ann Arbor public library. You have 10 more days to do more ACT practice. With your current credential, you would be a high match to low reach. You may try EA, but I think you will be likely deferred. Then you will have more time to bring up your GPA and test scores.
By the way, Pioneer has won more than one Grammy.

I know Pioneer has won more than one Grammy I’m set to retake the sat on October 5th but I won’t get my scores in time for Early Action and I’ve got a good shot for Michigan based off some of the people who they let in last year from Michigan who had similar act and gpa’s to me and my Junior was the strongest of my highschool career and (sorry about this huge run on sentence) the lower 25% of people who are accepted have between a 3.6-3.75 and I don’t believe that takes into account instate. and i thought my act was just between the average for students admitted?

The mid 50 ACT for UMich is 29-33, average/median is at 31. It is the same for 2012 and 2013 but higher than previous years. The average GPA is 3.85 (3.83 for 2012). It is more generous for in state, but with both ACT and GPA at 25%, you will need to have great assay and strong EC. So that’s why I chance you as high match to low reach. If you are from oos, it would be a reach. Don’t be fooled by knowing so and so got in with the same score and GPA. Each person is different in EC, course rigorous, essays, recommendation, etc in a holistic review. Statistic just shows the acceptance rate at this GPA and ACT to be very low although not impossible. I would definitely not call it a good shot. Particularly, Pioneer’s GPA tends to be more generous and the UMich admission office knows exactly how the distribution of GPA is as they get hundreds of application from Pioneer every year. If you are going to take Oct 5 SAT, the score may still be arrived before Nov 1 if you put UMich down for free score report. Anyway, you will still have time as you are likely to be deferred.
