I will take my SAT II tests in May. (I'll be taking US History, Math I, and possibly Biology or Writing). Also, I'm expected to be made captain of the Cross Country team and Soccer team for my Senior year.

improve your SAT scores...washu and columbia...id say atleast 2150 to have a shot unless you are recruited/legacy/urm

yea the ec's are great, so work on your sat's

Hey, so I live in STL and am familiar with Wash U,
Wash-U=really good shot, they are big on talent, I know people who have had a 3.5 GPA but were regionally known in their specific talent area and got in, and they weren't National Merit....so you've pretty much got that in the bag
Have u thought about Notre Dame, Northwestern, Duke?

Yeah I've given some thought to Northwestern. I've been getting propaganda from Northwestern and Wash. U of St. Louis in the mail like every month since Sophomore year. I'm possibly going to do a summer program at Northwester if I can raise enough money. Also, are there any benefits for living in a millitary family? Anyone know a good SAT book? I have Fiske but I haven't really found it too helpful.

Go now and get the College Board SAT book (its blue) and is the best because they make the test, it brought my score up 60 pts!! No joke, I did it like crazy and on the math section I went from having no time left to having 10 mins. left or more after each section.

Oh, STL is a pretty boring town...

NU would have many more connectsion to opportunities/internships in Chicago

Oh you mentioned a summer program? Personally I think those are all just scams. It just shows how much money a person has to suck up to the college. It would be much more impressive if you studied college/adv. high school material on your own and tested out of the class...and FREE!

Would taking community college classes over the summer help my chances?
Also what would my chances be for UVA and Northwestern?

When you say you've been recruited by Div I colleges for soccer, which schools? I ask because if you can play soccer at the Div I college level, and you have an SAT score above 2000, you have a very strong hook that could open doors for you at some very good colleges indeed.

West Point and St. Joseph's. Two struggling programs. I dont really have as many accolades as most college players do, I'm sort of a wild card. On a higher note, West Point and St. Joes contacted me, I did not have any prior contact with them.

I will plan on contacting some of the coaches on my list (my only prior contacts have been to LACs, mainly because I just realized what kind of school im looking for). Realistically, I know that I won't be able to play at UVA, but I know Columbia is struggling, AND they did lose to West Point this season.

Well, that's partially encouraging. You should definitely contact the soccer coaches of all the schools you want to attend. Many of the schools will have forms you can fill out to begin the process on their athletic department websites. If you can interest a coach strongly enough so that the school tries to recruit you, great. If not, you need to get your SATs up for the schools you named above. You'd probably need at least a 2250 to be competetive at Columbia, 2200 for WashU and Northwestern, 2000 for UVA because you're in state. Northeastern (in Boston, right?), however, should be easy for you.

I have one question - why Columbia? Its a reach anyway, but its nothing like the other schools on your list. Socially it really is lacking in a community oriented atmosphere, unlike WashU and UVA. Top schools most like those schools are Brown, Dartmouth, Penn, Northwestern, Duke, etc. Columbia could not be farther.

And a little ways down the selectivity list are Vanderbilt, Emory, and William and Mary.

Columbia is my version of the token dream school. Big city, prestige, nice english program, political ties, job oppurtunities, etc. I want to apply but I don't know if I'll end up going there, even if I am accepted.

On another note, that was just a short list of schools, I still have about a year until I start filling out applications. Plus, I'm making all my visits over spring break and summer vacation.
