Hi! I’m an incoming senior in high school & was wondering if anyone could help me with my chances
SAT: 1870 (retaking this October)
ACT: 27 (retaking)
Unweighted GPA: 3.7
Weighted GPA: 4.812
I am in the IB program at one of the top 30 high schools in the nation
10 APs by the end of HS, 2 DE’s by the end of HS, 3 IB SL’s by the end of HS, and 3 IB HL’s by the end of HS
ECs:
-UNICEF Club President
-Member of SGA (1 of only 20 members chosen in class)
-Member of Math Honor Society and Spanish Honor Society
-Leader of MIT’s Code Club in local community
-Member of Environmental Club
-LiNK Crew Member
-Multi-Lingual
-Tennis Player throughout all of High School
-Member of National Honor Society
-Musician with YouTube Channel (Advanced in playing piano, clarinet, alto saxophone, and acoustic guitar)
-Advanced chess player with numerous awards and a high rating
I’d say you’re squared to go. Weakest link is the ACT, SAT is looking average for freshmen. Solid profile in my opinion.
Thanks for the response. Do you know how UF GPA is calculated? I know that for AP and IB classes it’s +1 and for honors it’s +0.5 but my GPA is calculated by semester grades. So would I add these additions to every semester grade’s grade points or just add it to the total grade points accumulated throughout HS?
Also, my rank is just outside the top 25% for my unweighted GPA and just outside the top 15% for my weighted GPA. Is this important?
UF will require you enter your grades into SSAR (Student Self-Reported Academic Record):
http://www.admissions.ufl.edu/ugrad/ssar.html
UF will want your grades entered for each semester. But follow the rules below to determine which grades to enter.
This is a bit complicated. UF wants to know how you did compared to your peers, so they do look at it (if provided). I believe rank is also entered into the SSAR. The more competitive the high school, the less important the ranking. Another way to look at it. At a less competitive, high school, UF may only be accepting students in the top 10%, while at some of Florida’s most competitive high schools, they may accept folks outside of the top 25%.
Good Luck!
@Gator88NE thanks for your response. I go to a very competitive school so do you think I would be ok? Also, so if I had an A in an honors class for both semesters, when calculating my UF GPA would I be adding 4.5 + 4.5 or would I be adding 4 + 4 and then + 0.5 for the weight?
4.5 +4.5.
Then divide by the total number of semesters.
@Gator88NE thanks again. So with that, my UF GPA is around a 4.477, if I did this correctly. So are my chances ok with this?
You’re a match to UF, but it’s holistic admissions can seem a bit random. Make sure you have a few other options, just in case.
