Chances

Sometimes I just want to write my own “chance me” post:

I am a middle-aged white female living in the mid-Atlantic region. I’ve already been to high school, but it wasn’t a good experience, so I would really like to redo it at a boarding school. I had very high SAT scores in the 70s; do they still count, because my brain is pretty much shot. I don’t have any extracurricular activities right now. Can I count cleaning up after my pets? Oh, and I would need full financial aid, because my kids are already in boarding school and I am thus poverty-stricken. Come to think of it, I would need full financial aid plus a generous stipend. What do you think my chances are for Exeter or Andover, because those are the schools that a chances post is supposed to ask about?

DH and I are thinking that adult boarding schools will become the new retirement communities. Sign me up!

The school bookstore will have to sell a few different products, though. Depends, Porcelana, those funny blue pills…

Though pretty high, my blood pressure scores will probably keep me out of the tippy-top schools. Can anyone suggest a school where I will be surrounded by brilliance but that will overlook my BP numbers? My cholesterol numbers are not very impressive either, but I do plan to retake the blood test next month.

Does anyone know what the average BP numbers are for Andover and Exeter?

@twinsmama: Coffee.out.my.nose. Thanks for the morning laugh! :slight_smile: :slight_smile: :slight_smile:

At a recent visit, I fell in love with Shady Glen. The staff was kind and attentive and didn’t seem to mind when I wandered into the kitchen by mistake. The residents seemed very happy and even invited me to play a game of checkers. I can really see myself there one day. However, my kids will only pay for Andover or Exeter. How do I convince them that Shady Glen would be a better fit for me?

(Hey, this is fun. Jump in BS parents!)

@ChoatieMom, same to you…good thing I was done with my coffee.

Adults are so easily amused these days.

How many posts before any CC thread devolves into rankings?

Good one, pan.

Just trying to help - finding a top institution for you with your BP, @ChoatieMom!

I don’t believe I’ve ever claimed to be an adult.

@skieurope, I’m just waiting to see how long it takes you to declare this thread off-topic and either close it or move it to the Chances forum.

As soon as I stepped in the Kahn designed library or the library with big holes (as my 11 years old said,) I wanted a do over! It’s now my life-long dream to go to a BS.

I have stellar extracurriculars: hundreds of hours of volunteering, chaperoning field trips and outings, organizing and decorating for events, making copies, putting band aids on kids. I am good with kids.
I will be an excellent member of BS community as a student or a dorm parent or a teacher or a coach or whatever.
Just give me a call. will take it!

All my scores are very high but from last century though.
My BP is a bit high too… but is under control with medication, so hopefully it won’t interfere with admission.

I’m willing to buy a building. Will that help me get in?

Folks, the top 30 are all great! Eveually it comes down to affordability, or if your guardians earn enough to send you there. Financial aid is limited and they usually go to the very poor. Alternatively, there’s this safety, or is it?

When I’m An Old Lady

by Joanne Bailey Baxter
When I’m an old lady, I’ll live with each kid,
And bring so much happiness just as they did.
I want to pay back all the joy they’ve provided.
Returning each deed! Oh, they’ll be so excited!
(When I’m an old lady and live with my kids…)

I’ll write on the walls with reds, whites, and blues,
And bounce on the furniture…wearing my shoes.
I’ll drink from the carton and then leave it out.
I’ll stuff all the toilets and oh, how they’ll shout!
(When I’m an old lady and live with my kids…)

When they’re on the phone and just out of reach,
I’ll get into things like sugar and bleach.
Oh, they’ll snap their fingers and then shake their head,
And when that is done, I’ll hide under the bed.
(When I’m an old lady and live with my kids…)

When they cook dinner and call me to eat,
I’ll not eat my green beans or salad or meat.
I’ll gag on my okra, spill milk on the table,
And when they get angry…I’ll run…if I’m able!
(When I’m an old lady and live with my kids…)

I’ll sit close to the TV., through the channels I’ll click
I’ll cross both eyes just to see if they stick.
I’ll take off my socks and throw one away,
And play in the mud 'til the end of the day!
(When I’m an old lady and live with my kids…)

And later in bed, I’ll lay back and sigh,
I’ll thank God in prayer and then close my eyes.
My kids will look down with a smile slowly creeping,
And say with a groan, “She’s so sweet when she’s sleeping!”

I have never understood why anyone is reluctant to go into assisted living… maybe it is my boarding school experience talking, but I love the idea of having my own room, and meals being served just down the hall…in fact, add in cocktails and it might be the perfect place to live!

I do enjoy a good game of Bingo.

@london203, I’m with you on that. Assisted living sounds pretty good to me. And they do have a cocktail hour!

@twinsmama we can meet in the lounge area for drinks before dinner.
