Possibly for summer but you really need to work on improving both your GPA and your SAT/ACT scores to be confident of admission.

Agreed. Retake the SAT and/or ACT. Look into the CARE program if you have aspects that you think would apply.

I don't mean to say this in a mean or cruel way but I want you to know what you're up against. this is exactly what a FSU admissions advisor told me and a body of students at my school:

"while you have great EC's, we don't care. Nor do we care if you play sports. FSU has began looking strictly at academics."

therefore I agree with what parent2noles and cybermom have said and just get those SAT/ACT scores up and that GPA. If you do that, there's a good chance you're in. But remember, it's gotten very hard to get in with the cut back on acceptance numbers. But if you stay focused I'm sure you will be okay!!

Work Hard and Be Positive!!

Go Noles!!

make sure you are applying for the summer c session. this mau help a bit. there certainly were applicants who got accepted during the first admission notification (11-28) with similiar stats as you.

the problem is the process gets increasingly competitive along the way. you should try to re-take sat/act to see if you can increase your score above 1200. i would also recommend reaching out to an admissions rep to get an inside opinion.

good luck... hope you get in!

Welcome FloridaStateLove! :)

Additional voices of experience are very helpful for students I believe. This ensures the students get the best information possible from a diversity of perspectives.

What I'd really like to see on this board is an FSU faculty or staff member to provide a bit more information.

Go 'Noles!! :D

I'm a junior now and plan on raising my GPA. I'm doing pretty well this year I should be able to get it up to a 3.1 or 3.2

Thanks parent2noles!! :]

I love this site, especially when I was applying myself and everyones comments were so helpful! Without this site and everyones comments I would have been a lost soul! haha!

hope my reply helped Damien!

the middle 50% is...
SAT: 1190-1300 (not including the writing section)
ACT: 25-29
GPA: 3.5-4.0

This is a good indication... remember 25% of students fall above and below these statistics... but the majority falls somewhere in between.

Patientlywaiting, what if one of the components like SAT Critical Reading is slightly below the middle 50% but the Math and Writing is well within and the GPA toward the upper end? Does that lessen the chances significantly?

Apply early, and hope for the best.

I got in with a 3.4UW/3.7W and a 24 ACT. I was really surprised because my stats are clearly in the bottom 25th percentile.

Is that an unweighted GPA?? So only 25% of FSU freshmen had below a 3.5 GPA? That's pretty amazing.

That is most likely "FSU's" computed GPA. They include only academic courses, no electives (no art, architecture, band, etc) and they do give weight to honors/AP/DE.sports.

And this

I do not believe to be true. Yet. When we visited, we were told GPA and SAT were most important, but that they were still giving and taking points for EC's, varsity sports, leadership roles, community service. Which is why they still have you provide a resume. And you have a chance to show yourself via the essay. Especially for the first round of early applications and those who request a summer start, if you are a strong candidate as a whole, they do consider you. And there are those who make up the 25%tile with grades and scores, although many of those are recruited athletes, and students who gain admission via audition (dance, music, etc). So do get scores and grades as high as you possible can. But if you are on the fence score or grade-wise, your EC's, sports, etc DO MATTER, and could be what get you over and in.

tzais01

it depends when you are applying. if you are applying this year, FSU is not factoring in the writing portion of the SAT (next year they will begin to do so).

I think one of the best things I learned from this board is to apply as early as you can. when we visited and met with an admissions rep last summer, this was confirmed when they told us that the admissions standards get tougher through each admission deadline. hopefully, for borderline candidates who missed the first deadline are in for the second one that just passed.

If not there still is one more admission deadline, but from what i have gathered that could be the most competitive group.

if you are a junior and plan to apply next year, i would strongly encourage you to get the application in as early as possible next summer when it comes out. as P2N points out, FSU uses "data mining". i am sure one of the variables it looks at is when someone applied. this in many ways tells the university (any university) that you are highly motivated about attending.

good luck to all round 2 applicants!

The last round of admissions also contains all the students that were sure they were getting into UF (so they did not apply anywhere else) and are scrambling to get into FSU or UCF when they find out they are rejected randomly and don't want to go to Santa Fe Community College.

Pateintlywaiting - I am so glad you are able to help some of the hopeful students with good information. There are many that post and we try and give them the best information possible, but it sure helps to have someone with good info from the university clear the air.

Go 'Noles!!

Happy NOLE Year! :D

cybermom

good point about the uf applicants. i was looking at the deadlines and it appears as though UF applicants will need to apply to FSU before they get a decision from UF.

the final FSU submission deadline is February 13. The UF notifications don't come out until February 15. I don't know why UF applicants don't just apply to both, but I guess its what you said... over confidence about getting into UF

NYCOLLEGEDAD -- you are right that this year they won't be able to start applying to FSU after the rejection since it will be too late. LESSON LEARNED -- Apply now!

Thanks to everyone piping in on my question. My D is a junior, and plans to apply to UF, FSU, UCF and USF as soon as their applications are available next summer. Right now, FSU is definitely her favorite and looks possible. She will apply for Summer for FSU, UF and UCF. Both parents are UCF alimni.

Her GPA will be 3.8-3.9 with their academic calc at the end of this year, but has just reached the 1100 SAT minimum FSU requires on CR and CM. Writing is 580 and they are using that next year, so that's a plus. ACT was 23. She's taking both ACT and SAT again January/February. CR is only a 510, so she needs to focus on that. CM was 590.

She has good EC's, athlete, and has always taken AP/Honors classes and will max out on the English, Math, Science, etc, boosting the academic credits as high as possible.

Right now, I'm just enjoying just reading all your posts, as we'll be in most of your positions next year.

Hey I'm a junior right now, and my weighted gpa should be just a 4.0 by the end of this year...but I hear your FSU gpa is different than your school gpa and that you get +.5 for honors and +1.0 for APs..In my school it's +1 for honors and +2 for AP...Would my FSU gpa be much lower than my school gpa?

Also, my SAT scores should be around the same or higher as the person who started this topic, but the only EC I have was ONE year of Key Club last year, and no clubs this year..Are my chances to get accepted going to be significantly lower because of my lack of ECs?
