Changing Major before Orientation

Any idea if it is possible to change your acceptance into a different school before accepting admission?

Yes, it’s possible… but depending on what you are looking to change to will determine how difficult it will be to do. If you are changing from one non-LEP to another non-LEP, it shouldn’t be an issue at all. If you are trying to change into a LEP, then your application has to be reviewed by that department. Just understand that admission to one LEP is not a guarantee of admission into a different LEP…they all look for different things…

Unfortunately it is changing from a non LEP to an LEP. We sent letter to LEP enrollment, I guess we will see. This will impact my Son’s decision to come to UMD as he is accepted into his preferred program elsewhere. Any advice as to who we should contact?

What is the LEP he is looking to change to?

My D did this before May 1 of the year she was admitted. She sent an email and they replied that the LEP was fully enrolled and not open at that time. However, she was able to do an internal transfer at the end of her first semester, and it all worked out.

Was this a change within same college? The LEP my son wants to transfer into is Smith School of Business as a Finance major. He is currently accepted into Mathematics and Natural Sciences as a Math major.

My D applied Undecided, so she was in “Letters and Sciences” There are no LEPs in L&S. Smith is the most competitive LEP at UMD, both for direct admission and internal transfers. Give it a shot and see what happens.
