Is it doable in the summer? is the curve more generous? Note: I'm not a straight A type of student like all of you, so if it's extremely hard in the summer, then I won't consider doing it.

3A is not bad if you just keep up with the problems.

I am not a chem person and I took chem 3B over the summer. While it is rather fast paced, it will likely be the only thing you are focusing on since you won’t have 3 other classes to worry about.

Doable over the summer? Yes.

I took 3B/L in the summer while working in a research lab and it was very manageable - meaning that it needs to be managed well. As long as you allocate your time wisely I think you can take either Chem 3 class in the summer and do well, even with other things going on. There isn’t anything particularly conceptually challenging in either class, but you do need to put in the time.

Great! Thank you so much! If you guys don’t mind, can you provide grades?

3A/3AL with Pedersen summer 2008. Was a lot of ochem but wasn’t bad at all. Made me want to be a science major actually. Take it.

What did you end up getting?

A-

10char

Is that common for you? Or did you really work hard in this class?

normal I guess?

A on the first midterm, average on the second, and felt like I aced the final lol. Curve helps. If you’re going to take ochem anyway I don’t see any reason to not take it over summer.

okay thank you. Also, if I’m considering IB for pre med, how do you know whether you should STAY premed? Because even if you get a low gpa, you can still get into lower tier med schools right?

GPA is the most important thing for med schools. also, it’s hard to get into ANY med school.

my sister graduated from UCLA with a low GPA, and she had to go to grad school at USC and earn a masters along with doing research and a ton of volunteer work before she even had a chance. she ended up not getting into any med school but got into an OD program, which just lets you practice as a primary-care physician. :(

if you really want to do medical or dental or any type of health, you NEED to maintain a high GPA. that and the MCAT are the most important criteria. everything else you can always make up (doing research and volunteer work and other resume-building activities after you graduate), but you only get one shot at your GPA.

OMG that’s so scary!! Aww…do you know what her gpa was? was it like 2.2 or something or like 3.0? If she got a 3.0, I’m going to be heartbroken. lol

3.0 isn’t good enough for any medical school in America from what I’ve heard …

well…unless you’re black, mexican, or native american

if you’re black, mexican or native american, you can get in without doing well on anything (GPA, MCAT, etc)

average gpa for med school is around 3.5/3.6 so if you’re around a 3.0 and not a minority (not an underrepresented minority) you need to step it up

That’s great…I’m screwed.

Also, can I take chem 3a in the summer with math 16A? Or can I take bio 1A in the spring with math 16a?

And for IB, we don’t have to take Math 1B right?

And can I start taking upper div courses with out declaring? I have priority registration so I CAN get them if it’s possible.
