With Chemistry placement, is it possible for someone who got a 3 on AP Chem to go into CHM 2047? My high school AP Chem teacher was an absolute incompetent and I had to do the best on my own to get ready for it. I have a very strong interest in chemistry, and the more I look over the CHM 2045 and CHM 2046 syllabi, the more I think I might get bored in those classes. I have yet to take the ChRA, would a high score on that help? Any advice? I know it sounds kinda stupid to not take the easy A, but I'd rather not take too light a 1st semester at UF; I'm coming in with 42 credit hours from dual-enrollment during high school, not including AP test scores.

Son had a 5 on AP chem, he jumped out. The class covered a chapter a class, after 3 weeks he cried uncle. Wouldn’t do it if I were you. It is a very fast paced class and with the other weed them out classes you maybe taking. What is the rush enjoy your time at college and give it sometime for the job market to recover.

I’m taking it. Though I’ve heard its really tough, I need the extra 3 hours I’d have after taking it, and I like the fact that the classes are smaller thus allowing interaction with the professor. It depends on what major your planning on taking however. If you require 8 hours of chemistry and aren’t planning on taking higher chemistry courses (if your going to Mengineering for example), you might not want to take the course. I’m not sure if a 3 on the AP chem cuts it. Ask your preview advisor, and if it doesn’t cut it and you really still want to take it take the SAT II. I’m reviewing some Gen Chem over the summer so hopefully by Fall I won’t go into shock.

I’ll be taking it, as well!

maybe you should just place into 2046 to get a feel for the classes at UF, before choosing the hardest courseload possible o.o’'

I think you need a 4 or higher to skip to 46.

I had a somewhat related question:
I will not be accepting AP Chem for credit, even though I just took it in HS because a) I’ll have over 45 hours with it and b) I am a science major. So when UF gets all the AP grades, would I just tell the adviser which ones I want to forfeit?

I would wonder if it really matters, just take which ever classes you want to take over again…though it will be on your mind during class ‘dang i have credit for this class already’.

my suitemate and a few other people i know took it. they said it was super hard and always had a ton of work, but with the way the class is graded its easy to get a b or a.
