chem130, question about the 125/126(?)lab and textbooks.

so what is this chem125/126?lab? does it count as a fourth class, and does anyone know if they are all full yet?

also, does anyone know what the chem130 textbook is for this yr?
i tried emiailing prof, no answer.

Chem 125/126 is a seperate lab from Chem 130. There is one day when you have a discussion and lab combined for 3 hrs long, and then a lecture session for 1 hr some other day of the wk. 126 isn't really a lab, its more of a "class" that is conjoined with 125, although you need to register for it to get credit.

And Chem 130 Textbook is "General Chemistry" by Ebbing, 8th Edition...you may also want to buy the solutions manual

^ costs about $130 at Ulrichs with $33 manual. I got it off Amazon $70 hardcover brand new and $20 manual < teacher's edition, muhahaha! lol

hey so are you sure about this info? i'm just going to go ahead and buy it... but where did you get the textbook information?

hey i just checked the course website...
<a href="http://www.lsa.umich.edu/lsa/cg_detail/0,,8,00.html?termArray=f_05_1560&term=Fall%202005&content=1560CHEM130100%5B/url%5D">http://www.lsa.umich.edu/lsa/cg_detail/0,,8,00.html?termArray=f_05_1560&term=Fall%202005&content=1560CHEM130100</a>
it looks like the textbook will be
Chemistry: The Central Science, ISBN 0137797524, Brown, Lemay & Bursten, Prentice Hall (Required).

dude i went to Ulrich's and talked to the guy there. He said General Chem...you see now I don't know which to believe.

And I got mine of Amazon for 3rd the price in new condition :)

It depends on the section you're in...I'm in section 600 and we have a different book.

BAH! so confusing. I'm in Sec 100 Chem 130, went to Ulrich's, checked it out with them, even looked at the books in stock...

Ok Everyone, it's all clear, textbook for Chem 130 section 100 with Professor John Gland is "General Chemistry" by Ebbing 8th Edition. Also need the solutions manual that comes with it. This is for Chem 130 sec 100 so I don't know about other sections. I called Ulrich's up today for the second time and they said the same thing over again so now I'm certain.

would you recommend me to take the chem 125/126 along w/the chem130 if i was interested in going into science?
and also, would chem125/126 count as a fourth class, or just an addition to the chem130? bc i'm wondering if i would need to drop a class in order to swap into 125/126...
thanks!

Yes you should take lab concurrently with the class, especially if you're going down the premed route. You don't want to lag behind and have to take the lab/lecture at seperate times.

does it count as a fourth class though?

i bought the general chemistry 8th edition ebbing 2005 paperback illustrated, instructor's copy.
the intsructor's copy has all of the answers-
would i still need to buy a students solution manual?

1 it counts as a class but isn't REALLY one, just one on paper. It count's at 1 credit alongside chem 125.

2...if it has the answers already then I guess not lol

what's the phone# for ulrichs?

(734) 352-8200, then they'll transfer you to the book dude
