chem6b FULL..***

Hey, I am bio major. I wanted to take chem6b, since I got a 4 on AP test, but now it's full and has a wait list for each section of 3-4 people. I won't register for another 2 days, so it will get even fuller by the time my turn comes.
So, I prepared a back-up - phys 2a, but it's full too and has a huge wait-list.

The question is - will they open new sections for chem6b or phys 2a?

Edit: yeah, if i fon't get into chem6b, I won't be able to take bild1 which would be a HUGE draw-back.

im kinda in the same boat as you. most of the professors that i want to take for chem 6a are full and i have a feeling that im going to end up being in the further end of the waitlist for them. i so dont feel like taking czworkowski for chem 6a…

yeah that’s pretty typical of freshman registration at a uc… it gets better as you get more units though, that’s the good news! :)

but theres always a chance of getting in the waitlist right?
a little optimism there…
haha

Looks like I’m going to end up in one of Czworkowski’s Chem 6A classes as well. My registration isn’t even until Friday.

What’s so bad about Czworkowski?

It’s between him and Johnson for me…

Well he’s not exactly “bad”, but he’s definitely not as good as the other Chem 6A professors, according to ratemyprofessor.com…

well i heard professor C. has boring lectures
Professor J has hard finals…
tough tough decisions

I just want to remind everyone of something  This is ONE quarter of your entire ucsd career. If you get a bad time or a mediocre professor, it’s notttt the end of the world. That 10 weeks seriously flies by every time. You are BOUND to get a weird prof or a bad class or a bad schedule at some point during your UCSD career, especially as a freshman since you have the worst registration times. Try not to panic though, everything works out! And it will be over before you know it.

^Nicely said, lol.

Sometimes a class has a lot of available space AND people on the waitlist. Does that mean the space is strictly reserved for freshman?

@GravityxZero35

Who would you choose personally? :)

I’m edging toward Johnson…

haha me too (only SLIGHTLY)
but at least she lectures a bit…
but her hard finals scare me

Same; but I’ve had survived seemingly the hardest teachers (just like Johnson, good lectures, but hard finals and midterms) in my high school senior year… and seemingly escaped with a fabled A or A-…

so im guessing that waitlist is a bad idea huh…
but the problem is that do lectures really help you on finals/tests…
i mean she might put random stuff on it to trick us?
lol… (past experiences)

Well her scores on ratemyprofessor and UCSD’s evaluations are a entire world of difference from Czworkowski’s… not to mention her classes are filling up super quick! I already had to change my planner twice cause of her class filling up so fast…

I wouldn’t flip out just because you didn’t get the best professor on ratemyprofessor.com. I have the top ranked professor in Math right now (Eggers) and I can honestly say I feel the recent graduate who taught Math 20C (Ravi Shroff) was just as good.

If you are a solid student, you are going to get the A regardless of the difficulty of the professor. Remember, the professor is difficult for everyone else in the class too and most the classes you guys are talking about will be curved.

well, if it wasn’t for those so-called “tricky” questions, you wouldn’t be able to separate the class that well, and you’d inevitably end up with people saying stuff like “i’m half a point away from an A-, why did i get a B+???”

the grade breakdowns have to be drawn somewhere, right? think logically - it’s unfortunate that you find yourself SO close to the grade you want, but somebody has to occupy that position.

so tricky questions let you separate out the people who understand the material backwards and forwards from those who know the bare minimum and are just hoping to plug-and-chug their way through the class. it’s not a bad thing. you’ll excel at some classes and have a more difficult time in others. it’s expected.

czorworski (wrong spelling haa) only has boring lectures, but johnson has hard finals?

id take czorworski. im used to boring lectures (thaaank you mrs. ap-english-teacher-that-spent-waaay-too-much-time-on-frankenstein)

dont take my word for 100%
i only heard it from my friends…

i heard czworkowski has relatively easier tests. anyone else heard/read that?

I agree with chowsx. boring lectures never stopped me from doing well in a class i was motivated to kick ass in. just saying.

it’s ok people! I think we czworkowski people will be fine. and if not, then you’re always better off than me, the “never took AP Chem and almost failed 10th-grade Chem” black sheep haha
