Quick question for all the engineers in the hizouse: Chem 207 or Chem 211?

I think Chem 207 is easier. I've heard opposing opinions though. Some say Chem 211 is easier since it doesn't get too into the material, but then Chem 207 expects the people taking it to be going further into Chem, so you don't go into as many concepts. Errr, does that make sense? Well, I took Chem 211 for two weeks, and then switched to Chem 207 because 211 didn't fit into my schedule. I've heard a lot of complaints from engineers about being lost in 211...

engineers can crush the premed curve

^ 100% true.

5 on AP Chem so I placed out of something

207 is more conceptual, engineers don't really have an advantage. 208 is more analytical; a lot of people struggle through this course

shizz, by crushed do u mean better or worsen?? i dont get it, lol. neways shizz u toook chem 207, why? and engineering is told to do 211 i thought it was strongly recommennded....i want to take the easier one, lol.

I skipped 207 (ap cred) and took 208 in the spring. Chem 211 and has a really rough curve because it's engineers only and it basically covers two semesters of chemistry in one semester. They always have a good professor teach that course, but I don't know if it's worth it. And by crush, I mean do better.

"207 is more conceptual, engineers don't really have an advantage. "

engineers will always have an advantage over pre-meds in technical courses, ESPECIALLY if they are more conceptual.

I am a premed and I was not "crushed." Chem 211 is a joke; I ocassionaly attended the class with my engineer friends. Not only was the material covered superficially, the professor was not up to the caliber of the 207/208 professors.

HAHA Premeds vs. engineers

so should i stick with the recommended chem211?

211 will not fulfill the premed requirement.

"so should i stick with the recommended chem211?"

It depends on what you want to do. 211 is fast-paced and it covers a lot of material but at a superficial level, like someone else said. 207 is more in-depth but you don't cover as much. If you have AP credit, I would recommend skipping 207 and taking 208. Otherwise I it's up to you but I guess you should stick with the recommended.

"Not only was the material covered superficially, the professor was not up to the caliber of the 207/208 professors."

The professors are all taken from the chem department so it's a matter of blind luck if the prof for 211 was bad. I know in previous years, DiSalvo used to teach 211 and that guy is fantastic. I also know that McMurray (who is now retired) taught 207 and he blew but Hines taught 208 and she is amazing.
