Both are accredited for accounting. https://www.aacsb.net/eweb/DynamicPage.aspx?Site=AACSB&WebKey=4BA8CA9A-7CE1-4E7A-9863-2F3D02F27D23
Both are flagship Us which are major recruiting stops.

Go to the cheaper one.

Hi Erin’s Dad! Thank you very much.

Another question: someone told me that UVa has a better chance of on campus recruiting. i wonder if i can find as many job offerings at UT Austin as at UVa?

thank you very much! I have been to Dallas, and i love that city, and the whole Texan culture

But at which school i will more likely to find a job after graduation?

If you are interested in a career in accounting, UT-Austin is the obvious choice. UT McCombs is the #1 school in accounting (Public Accounting Report). More than 75% of UT’s MPA grads pass the CPA exam the first time. Most grads get one or more offers from the Big 4.

Depends in part on where you want to work after you graduate. Dallas, Houston, Austin, & San Antonio all have much healthier economies than the US as a whole. A UT degree is more helpful than a UVa degree if you’re seeking a job in Texas. If you want to work on the east coast, UVa may be the better choice. Both schools have on campus recruiting and good alumni networks. Agree with Erin’s Dad – consider cost difference. Your college experience and job prospects should be good at either school.

I’m am a lifelong resident of Texas whose daughter attends UVA. First, both of these schools are great, but they’re both very different. Our daughter chose not to apply to UT because of its enormous size; she wanted something a bit more personal. I have numerous friends whose children attend UT and all love it. Both have great b-schools; however, I believe UVA is ranked slightly higher (USNWR, Businessweek). UVA is also ranked higher overall than UT, but I personally wouldn’t let that influence my decision because the difference is marginal. If you want to live in TX as an adult, choose UT. The UT network is like none other. They take care of their own. If, OTOH, you want to live on the east coast, I’d choose UVA.

If you’re wanting a huge football culture, choose UT. If you prefer historical traditions (secret societies, streaking the lawn, steam tunneling, and EVERYTHING Jefferson) pick UVA. Both schools have very active Greek communities; however, neither are all-encompassing like at some schools. (30% Greek @UVA; ~15% maybe at UT).

Austin is a much larger city than Charlottesville, so there’s a lot more to do. The music scene is great and the restaurants are fantastic; however, the traffic and parking are absolutely horrible in Austin. The Hill Country is lovely, but if the beauty of the campus itself and surroundings are important to you, then the edge has to go to UVA. The school is consistently ranked among the most beautiful in the nation. The buildings/architecture are uniform and nestled within a mountainous backdrop. In the fall the foliage is breathtaking and in the winter you have the blooming dogwoods. Charlottesville sort of reminds me of a much smaller Austin (kind of artsy and quirky), and it’s about an hour an forty-five minutes from D.C. should you find that appealing. Both schools are within a few hours from the beach.

The TX heat is brutal but our winters are mild. VA’s winters are mild. Should you choose VA, you will get to experience four distinct seasons, unlike Texas, and their summers are much less oppressive.

In the end, if this were my child making the decision I would let one factor drive the choice…price. Which school is cheaper? If you are OOS and costs are more or less the same, consider the culture and environment of both and select the school where you think you’d be happier.

UT is number 1 in accounting.

UVA is overall better school and Austin is good for business so you need to decide by looking at the cost difference not by which is better.

UVa is not a better school. It is a grossly overrated school.

UVA is most definitely not the best school overall. It’s more selective and prestigious maybe for undergrad, and has some high profile professional programs that are strong. However, in terms of faculty quality and academic departments UT has many more highly ranked programs than UVA. It’s really not even close. That’s why UVA performs much more poorly than UT in all the world academic rankings that focus more on quality of departments and faculty than undergrad selectivity.

If you want to go into I-Banking etc go with UVa
If you want to become a CPA and work at an accounting firm it doesn’t matter.

Have you visited both campuses? Do this if you haven’t, and pick the one you like better, because you are going to spend 4 years or more of your life there. We toured both last year, and I was pleasantly surprised and impressed by UT (“wow, this place is awesome!”), while I wanted to love UVA, but was disappointed (“whoa, what happened to UVA?”).
