Choosing Dorms???

I have accepted to UIUC engineering. Right now, I have shortlisted a few potential dorms:
1.) ISR
2.) Hendrickson House
3.) Allen
4.) Bromley Hall

I am worried that I can't eat at other university houses if I live in private certified houses. Is it possible to living in PC and pay to eat at university housings????

How should I rank these 4???
Considerations: 1.) spaciousness
2.) closeness to engineering and main quad
3.) good food

Thanks!!!

Can someone comment on Hendrickson House and Bromley Hall???

I lived in Bromley last year and loved it! After a few months, the food was just terrible. Everyone says dorm food is bad, but Bromley is known for having pretty bad food. My floor wasn’t very social, but I hung out with a lot of kids on a different floor and had a blast. I definitely miss it this year, looking back on it. If I could do it again, I’d choose da Brom.

But no, you can’t eat at university housing. I didn’t think it was a problem at all though. Bromley’s close enough to the quad (A little far from engineering quad but most of your classes freshman year will be on the main quad).

is the meal plan worth it? I am thinking of living in hendrickson house, but pay to eat at university dorms.

The meal plan definitely isn’t worth it. For one, its super super expensive. Secondly, You’re not going to want to leave your dorm room and walk somewhere (especially in the winter) for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. That’s just a nuisance you don’t want.

Can someone discuss their experience at Allen Hall?

I would appreciate recent experiences at Illini Tower and Hendrick House.

I lived in Hendrick House, but that was in 1985- I had a great experience. All rooms were suites, so we had two rooms with a common bathroom. Life in a dorm is what you make of it. The only downside back then of Hendrick House was that I couldn’t go into a university dorm for lunch or dinner if I was on the other side of campus. I don’t know if there is any reciprocity between Hendrick House and the university dorms. Food was never that great at Hendrick House. But that was 28 years ago.
