Choosing Housing Options: Transfer Sophomore

What would be a few good housing choices to live in as a sophomore. Also what would be the two places i would not want to live in as a sophomore? Thanks for your help.

Do you want a double?
Singles: Get Vandy/ Barnard or Towers
Doubles: Branscomb

Just not kissam, essentially. Of those, branscomb is the nicest.

-current junior

how about the biggest singles, and how far would those be from campus

^ anyone…

The singles sizes vary even within some of the dorms. Best bet is to check the housing site and look up the dimensions for various dorms. I think the biggest single rooms are in Tolman but you probably don’t want to live there.

Apart from the stigma assocaited with Toleman, (male only, “nerdy guys”) it is a great location on campus.

Regardless, best place to live is Towers for a single or double.

I am not a transfer but I lived on a floor of almost all transfers this year. We lived in Mims Hall- which is in Kissam Quad. I am pretty sure almost all of the transfers ended up in Kissam, however, I do know of some in Towers. Also, I know second semester some sophomore transfers applied for doubles in Branscomb and were able to move there for the semester.

If I was a transfer I would probably pick Kissam, since more transfers would be there and I think Kissam is a lot easier to meet people than Towers. Also, the school usually places transfers together, like they did on my floor. However, I am not sure they place all the transfers together in Towers… they may only place them together in Kissam.

Honestly, to the person who said do not pick Kissam, its really not that bad. So if you do get placed in Kissam, DO NOT FREAK OUT! Most likely you will be with other transfers anyways!

Kissam has a negative stigma, and not for good reasons. The singles in Towers are not much bigger, to be honest. Kissam is a good location, close to classes, about a 6 minute walk to Rand. Also, YOU ARE IN A SINGLE…which is SOO nice, and underrated. All of my friends at other schools are so jealous that I get the option to live in a single, but its funny how all the kids at vandy do not want to live in one. Everyone on your floor is also in a single, so its not as bad as you think.

My D was in Vandy/Barnard as a sophomore transfer last year. There were several other transfer students on her floor. The room was okay - and the dorm is close to everything.

I thought we get randomly place in whatever dorms they pick for us, or do we have a choice in where we want to live? i want to live in tower =]

adding: im pretty sure i might get kissams because i am a transfer student, which is fine with me. Is it true there is no laundry facilities? if so where do the students go to get their clothes washed? is the bathroom gross? like mold and mildew? why do they have such bad reps? does it smell or infested with bugs and etc ?? just need more info thanks in advance

Depending on your preferences (do you want to party or kick back? be in the “scene” or not?), you may also consider McTyeire. Not a hugely popular choice, but it seems like the people I knew who lived there particularly enjoyed it.
