So the acceptances have been sent, but still not the promised information about Honors Experience Day. It has been 2 weeks. Hope UCI is not usually this flaky about taking care of business.
sndebrosse: thanks for the feedback about Honors Day--and yes got the decisions at 3am!

I got the Honors Experience Day letter (physical invite, not the email) today.
I live close to campus though, so it might take a bit longer for the mail to get to those of you that live farther away.
Still, it's coming. =]

Hey guys, I'm sorry if this question has been answered, but I'm in a rush and I have a couple of questions.

What exactly does the Honors program do? (Besides give an early notification on acceptance). Do i get any benefits? For example, I want to change majors from Mathematics, to engineering. Will the fact that I am in the Honors program give me some extra mobility majors-wise?

If I don't attend this Honors Experience Day March 7, do I lose my CHP opportunity? do i have to make a decision right now, or can i wait until other admissions come out?

thanks!

You don't get extra-mobility when it comes to changing major. It's not difficult to switch majors so long as you maintain a modest GPA and take certain courses. It's possible to switch majors in your first year as freshmen assuming you scored well on your AP and placement tests:

<a href="http://www.changeofmajor.uci.edu/CoM_Engr.html%5B/url%5D">http://www.changeofmajor.uci.edu/CoM_Engr.html</a></p>

As for CHP:

*You are to take certain honors courses which fulfill most of your GE requirements. These courses are intensive than usual, but a better experience IMO.
<a href="http://www.honors.uci.edu/prospectivehs.php%5B/url%5D">http://www.honors.uci.edu/prospectivehs.php</a></p>

The benefits that I think are important:

*You get to have guaranteed housing in campus for 4 years instead of 2. This was important for me as I don't commute nor do I have a place to stay outside of campus.

*You will be in the first batch of students who get to select courses for the next quarter. This benefit might sound weak, but course selection is frustrating for most students here as often the courses they need or want are full or under the uncertainty of being in the waitlist. You also have more control in what time these courses are taken so you won't be sandwiched into attending classes early in the morning or evening. There's a BIG DIFFERENCE in starting your classes in the afternoon than in the morning.

Does getting into CHP mean Regents?

When do I know if I got the Regents scholarship?!

I got the honors thing too. Is it worth going the the honors program at Irvine rather than Cal or UCLA? oh and jchang do i know you???calculus 6th per?

my application page says nothing about a regents scholarship; does that mean i didn't get it?

Irvine Regent's site says you'll find out about whether you got it or not in your acceptance info.

Still waiting to hear from the CHP...

if my application status page has no mention of a regent scholarship, then do you think my chances of getting admitted to a school like UCB is very low?

^ What? This forum is for UCI, not Berkeley. Go ask that in the Berkeley forum.

I think he just meant that if he didn't even qualify for UCI regents, should be expect rejection from Berkeley.
If this is your only reason that you're worrying, I'd say relax.
I know my sister got no scholarships from any UCs, but still got in to UCLA (not Berkeley, but similar).

bobaboy:

UC gpa is the primary consideration for admissions. For Regents, it's gpa+test scores, or something really special in your app. Thus, a 4.5 UC gpa and 1900 SAT score will be a shoe-in at practically every UC, but will not win Regents.

^ Oh, gotcha.

Ya, I wouldn't worry about it.

okay; thanks a lot. i didn't meant to turn the topic off-topic but I was just wondering what a rejection of Regents would mean in the bigger scope of admissions

So the March 7 Honors Experience Day is completely optional, right? If I don't go, I'm still eligible for the honors program?

Yes, totally optional. UCI just wants to buy you lunch and tell you how great they are and why you should ignore those "other UCs" and matriculate to The OC.. :D

Minor dilemma:
So I self-reported my AP Calc AB score, but decided not to self report my Comp Sci Score. I got a 5 on calc, but a 1 on comp sci. The 1 in Comp Sci was in freshman year, and I never took the AP class. Why I took the AP Test is a longg story, but it wasn't exactly something I wanted to do.

Anyways, is there a chance that they might revoke my admission/CHP when they see I didn't report the Comp Sci score when I send in my transcript? I also got a 4.6 my 1st semester senior year, so that might help?

Anyone have any past experience with this, or have any reliable information/advice?

(sorry, lots of questions :P)

I seriously doubt they'll care that you got a 1 on AP Comp. Sci test. From what I've heard, taking the test only helps you in admissions and skipping courses, not ever hurt you. Unless you're average senior GPA is below 3.0 or have any Ds or Fs, they really won't care how high your GPA is in senior year.

Contact UC Irvine admissions office of what to do.

yeah, they won't care one whit about an AP score that is unreported. UC doesn't even care if you take an AP exam your senior year (unless your HS factors the exam score in your grade).
