I was told that a snail mail letter should be sent out by the end of the month to all of the students who have come to mutual agreements with investigators. Congrats on getting a position!

@souseis yes, I got an email with a list of housing options posted by COH faculty…and yes I agree, Duarte is said to a bit shady, so it’s probably best to get a room near arcadia.

and yeah, same as missmusic4, snail mail should be sent out by the end of april; the coordinator said she’s starting paperwork.

Congrats to all who’ve got in!

and good luck shadowyams
you really never know how it’ll go!

I havent gotten any emails from them, is that because I live near and dont need the housing info? still kind of worried, i guess I will be feeling like this until I get the snail mail confirmation from them haha >"<

anyone want to start a fb group?

OK, so I am attempting to make a FB group now, but I am unable to start one without initially inviting friends to join. Can all of you who have been accepted please PM me your names so that I can friend request you and invite you to the group? Thanks! So excited for the summer! Good luck to everyone else who still has interviews or is waiting back for a response!

Apparently, they’re out of funding for out-of-staters. >.<

@missmusic7 I’ll start the group then, since I already know some ppl who’s in it

out of funding for those out of state? how’s that work? they should have enough for 50 people so…?

HAHA. OK I definitely went through way too much trouble to make that group. I am requesting to join yours right now. Thanks @souseis!

And I did not hear anything about the lack of funding for out-of-state students. Unless @shadowyams received some written confirmation of this from an administrator or investigator, I am almost certain this is not true.

They should not be out of fund unless they actually provide extra stipend to out-of-staters for housing, and to my knowledge, they do not do this

Extract from an email a PI sent me:

Presumably, some of their funding comes from the state and is restricted to only instaters. Don’t know the details, though.

I sent the main office an email to confirm this, but they told me that I counted as instate because my contact address is instate. shrugs Not sure if it was the PI’s way of saying that he just doesn’t have space in his lab, or the Academy’s actually out of private funds.

how odd…so central office didn’t say anything about you being able to join the program? did you get back in touch with the professor and maybe point out this discrepancy? that stinks!

A post-doc in another lab sent me an email saying she’d like to work with me, and told me that she’d check with the PI about specifics before sending a confirmation.

^_^

@shadowyams, is that part of regular summer program. (are there still spots available for summer candidates?)

How did you find out about the post-doc?

@gemini10: I would assume so, though I’m not really certain. I haven’t received any notice saying the entire program is full, though it’s likely that they’re close to it.

The post-doc emailed me directly.

@shadowyams: I have emailed the program administrator for update on the program. She hasn’t replied back yet.

Well, good luck with your application.

Is everyone a high school student here on this thread? I’m just wondering because from reading the thread it seems like I’m the only one with a B.A… Congrats btw to those of you who got it! I’m not on Facebook but I hope to meet you guys soon! anyone know when they are starting? Mine starts in June…

Probably, as this site is populated mostly by high schoolers (and given that this board is under “Pre-College Issues” …). I think most interns are actually undergrads, but this site is by no means a representative sample of the intern population.

Looks like I’m starting June 18th!

^CONGRATS! I’ve been rooting for you this whole time :)

Thanks! The research notes my mentor showed me were pretty awesome (using neural stem cells to selectively target brain malignancies), and she’s got several projects she wants to set up.

What area did you end up choosing at Stanford? I heard you were considering Immunology, but haven’t been following the thread.

I’m in the immunology institute. I’ll be working with organ transplant patients. The lab is trying to find a way to get them off of immunosuppressant drugs. It sounds super interesting, so I’m really excited Yours sounds really cool too!
