nooooo… all the professors are saying their labs are already full… Has anyone else had luck finding a spot?

I just emailed 8 labs, and I’ve received one reply saying that the lab was already full.
I’m sure there are some labs open, or there would be no point to the second round.

Did anyone else get replies yet? No one has emailed me back yet…

I just got 4 no’s. I don’t think anyone will reply today since it’s sunday

Whoever got in - can you give please post your stats?

If you’ve confirmed with a mentor, is there anything that the student needs to do to get the final acceptance email? (Like emailing Dr. Sleeth, finding paperwork, etc.?)

People who got in. How many reference letters did you send? What else did you send other than the online application?

Technically I didn’t get in yet, just to the second round. But I’m assuming that’s what y’all are asking…

Anyway, the only additional stuff I added was a letter (I never saw it but I know it was short and generic) and a resume. My resume was fairly strong though (STS, USABO, etc.)

Anyway, i confirmed with a mentor today. Any advice on choosing between this and SIMR? I know i can’t go wrong but the financial difference makes city of hope pretty darn attractive.

I would probably look at what exactly you’d be researching with both mentors. Since these aren’t residential, you don’t have much of a camp life with the other students, so if you don’t like what you’re doing, you’ll be kind of miserable…

I actually live meh-close to City of Hope, so I’ll be commuting there (although it’s more than an hour each direction). So in total there’s maybe a $5000 or so difference in financial costs. I think I’ll probably go with City of Hope because my mentor basically chose me because he thought I was a good fit, and I’m interested in his research…

Hi Everyone,

I got accepted into the 2nd round and confirmed with a mentor this past week. I did not submit any letters, just a resume. I sent a few emails early on after notifications came out, but found labs to be filled. I did receive emails from two different labs and interviewed the next day and confirmed that same night. My friend just had her interview the other day and also confirmed with a lab yesterday. There is still hope for you guys.

To everyone who’s been accepted: should we get a facebook group going? When are your start dates?

Hi! To the people who got accepted: did you guys send emails really early on or did you guys keep sending emails? Cause I sent them mostly on the first day and only got one reply email.

Hi jo127jc,

I sent several emails the very night I got the notification about the second rounds. I causally sent additional emails when I realized that time was passing by with no reply or filled positions the by the second week following notification release.

I was just accepted into the program! To anyone who has participated in the program: what does the average day look like? Are there any program-wide seminars/activities or do you just work with your mentor for a set amount of time each day?

I am a rising senior in high school and have little to no research experience. Any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated!

Hey guys, for those of you who were accepted, how did you find housing if not from the Cali area?
I’m wondering if I should even apply because of the housing issue. I’m applying to SIMR from the East Coast but I have a family member who can rent a place for me up there.
Yeah I applied but I’m worried about the same issue. Were you able to find people through facebook groups or other communication to room or rent with?
